1  The Perfect Cake! (and a repulsive one, too) in Dessert by mojo_hannah on: May 25, 2010 07:52:09 PM
Perhaps it is the extreme workload that has been plaguing me, but recently all I have wanted is some chocolate cake. Amen. The first one (which was SOOO AMAZING) is actually a banana cake, because my mom bought about a million bananas on her last trip to the grocery store. So without further ado, banana cake with banana cream cheese frosting and a chocolate ganache glaze. I'll start right in on the gory details:

holy moly! a full view:

wowza. Did I mention I loooooove this cake?
However, apparently I have to balance amazing recipes up with repulsive ones. The actual cake was pretty excellent (chocolate buttermilk) but the frosting was disgustingly sweet. It ruined the entire cake. Sad face. It looked pretty though, so I'll give you a picture:

Since both of the recipes were from the Magnolia Bakery Cookbook (a bday present from my lil' bro) I'll give a quickie review of the book. The cake recipes were both AMAZING (although I tinkered with the banana one a little bit) so I totally recommend that portion of the book. However, the frostings were horribly sweet. Really gross. Sorry, magnolia. The cream cheese frosting was technically their recipe, however I only added 2 our of the 5 CUPS that they called for (what?!) and it was still plenty sweet. In the aforementioned sickly sweet frosting, I used 2 CUPS LESS than it actually called for, and I could still only eat one slice before trashing the thing. So all in all that was a wordy way of saying: I recommend the cakes in the book but if you make the frostings, put in less than half of what they call for. So yeah. Enjoy your days/night, everyone!

2  My Country Girl Skirt in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by mojo_hannah on: May 25, 2010 07:38:57 PM
So last weekend I was studying for finals/writing papers/doing physics problems sets when I thought: you know what would be more relaxing than this? Sewing a skirt! So I made one. And it was much more relaxing than a problem set. It makes me feel like a little country girl when I wear it. So, pics!

zipper view! (How proud am I of this zipper? Thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis proud!)

Pleats 'n lace closeup.
So thar it is. And then on Sunday I realized that perhaps it was not so wise to put off all that homework... and so spent 12 hours straight on it. No kidding. (You'll be happy to know I got an A on my problem set, and am one step closer to finishing my junior year of high school!!!!)
Have a good day/night!

3  Bob Marley Bag in Knitting: Completed Projects by mojo_hannah on: January 23, 2009 03:22:13 PM
Hi all! I can't believe I've never posted this in the knitting section, I've been using it for one or two years, since I knitted it. I used my dad's photoshop program to pixelize a photo of bob marley. then I traced it onto graph paper and used fair isle to knit it. So much fun! The front is red with a picture of bob marley on it, the back it black with his name on it. The straps are just braided stips of old Tshirts. Sooo...

4  Inaugural Cake! in Craft The Vote! by mojo_hannah on: January 23, 2009 03:11:28 PM
Hey everyone!
So I was super-pumped for Inauguration Day, because I loove Obama ever so much. So even though i was watching it on TV all day, I managed to turn it off for an hour to make an Obama cake! It turned out very delicious, too! Although I realize the frosting doesn't really look like him. But alas, here it is:

It's chocolate cake with vanilla frosting. (my brother made me use vanilla because he hates chocolate frosting. Men. ugh.)

This isn't a very good photo, but when you cut it open there were red, white, and blue stripes in the middle. It was supposed to look patriotic but it ended up looking more like the french flag. Viva la France!

Have a happy day/night!

6  Pink Polka-Dotted Pleats! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by mojo_hannah on: August 11, 2008 12:36:15 PM
Hey everyone! I found some extra fabric lying around and knew i had to make a dress! It's the first dress i've made using pleating, i think it turned out well. There's some elastic at the top to keep it from falling down. I can wrap the ties around my waist twice, which works out well! I'm pretty proud of it! sooo without further ado....

Action shot!

Hey fellow craftsters! This is my first post; my lurking days are finally over!  Grin
Anyways, I made this dress about a week ago out of an old pillowcase and an old shirt.
In case you can't see, the blue skirt part (which was the pillowcase) is blue leopard print!
