1  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / TM Patches Rainbow Swap on: March 20, 2018 01:17:56 PM
I made a couple of TM patches for the Rainbow Swap and thought I'd share them here.

Trust me, the stitching looks a little better than the photos. lol

2  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Graveyard Raven on: November 02, 2016 09:11:04 PM
This is a hoop I did for artsycandice in a Halloween swap. The moon is done in glow in the dark thread for a little extra punch.

and some detail:

artsycandice took the pics, she did a great job.

3  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Halloween Owl on: October 31, 2013 08:03:54 PM
I did this pattern from the Just Cross Stitch Halloween Ornament magazine. I used fiddlers cloth instead of the black background suggested and I think it turned out pretty well. This is before it was hooped.

I love the orange and yellows in this. I liked it so much I did another one on black, but that picture didn't turn out.
4  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Mad Witch on: October 25, 2013 04:59:39 AM
My partner received in the OTT October Holiday Swap so it's safe to post this. She and I both had Mad Hatter Day as one of our themes so I made a Mad Hatter witch hat.

I used satin thread for the spider because I thought it might give it a little sheen but it didn't really. It still adds a little contrast though.
5  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Early Halloween on: September 27, 2013 04:25:41 AM
I did this for the Vintage Halloween Swap and my partner has received so I thought I'd share it here.

My partner, pennydreadfull, likes Edgar Allan Poe as much as I do. And she also likes Victorian themes so I thought this fit perfectly. This is the picture she took of it because her photo kung fu is better than mine.
6  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Plan 9 - The Most Sinister Plan of All on: March 12, 2013 05:38:52 PM
I recently saw Plan 9 From Outer Space and it has so many great lines I was inspired to preserve one of them in needlework.

The picture is a little overexposed but I used florescent green for the aliens and I wanted them to show up better.
7  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / A Nightmare to Embroider on: June 06, 2010 10:06:00 PM
I did this piece for the monster swap currently in progress. Since my partner has received I think it's safe to post pics. She said she liked Freddy Krueger so I did this:

I found a site called DragoArt.com that has how-to tutorials for drawing our favorite monsters. It's pretty cool. Here's the link: http://www.dragoart.com/tuts/2323/1/1/how-to-draw-freddy-krueger.htm

The embroidery is backstich, satin stitch, french knots (eyes) and long and short stitch (which I had never done and was more difficult than I anticipated). The knives are done with metallic thread to make them shiny.

Here is a close up:

Overall I'm happy with how it turned out. I hope my partner agrees.  Smiley
8  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Blackwork Bookmark on: April 21, 2010 09:40:51 PM
Here's a little blackwork bookmark I made from a pattern I found on the internet. The flowers are pansies so I thought they would look nice in blue. It's backed with felt. I wanted to do blanket stitch around the edge but it's been so long since I've done it I had to look up a tutorial.  Embarrassed

9  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Fairies on: July 11, 2009 12:05:46 PM
I just completed the Fantasy, Fairy Tales, Faires and Folklore swap and this was the project I made. I loved this design from the minute I laid eyes on it. I just needed an excuse to work it up. Fortunately my partner was not only a fairy afficianado as well, but she had the patience of Job, waiting for me to finish this up and get it to her.

So, without further ado, here are the pics:

Here is the picture my partner took of the framed piece.

And here's a close up of the stitching.

For those interested in the technical details, the fairies are cross stitched and the background within the border is done in half stitiches of blue and very light blue on white cloth.

I thnk it came out pretty good considering the limited time I had to work it up. It usually takes me months to do a design of this detail. I finished this in a little over a month.
10  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Lord of the Rings Swap - Img Heavy on: May 09, 2009 05:30:09 PM
Here are some items I crafted for the Lord of the Rings swap.

Here's a Legolas tote I made. This is my first attempt at embroidery in many years. It was only after I made it, then looked at the embroidery on this board, that I realized my mistakes. I hope to do better next time.

Here are a set of tea towels I made. My partner said she liked to bake so I thought some kitchen items would be handy. The quotes are from the movies. Sam's "taters" conversation with Gollum and Pippin's list of hobbit meals.

And a trivet. Frodo does live you know.  Grin

And a simple sunflower keychain with a quote on the back.

Finally, there is this quote my partner liked that I designed with an alphabet I got from a book.
