1  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Re: Pleat Panic!!! on: March 10, 2011 01:26:01 AM
I have the same question!  I think you sew a vertical line one inch in from the crease (the folded-in-half side) but I have no idea how long the line should be!!
2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Made a muslin and pattern needs adjusting but I don't know how! Please help!!! on: November 21, 2009 01:07:15 AM
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to make my first dress (Butterick  5314 http://www.butterick.com/item/B5314.htm) and started by making a muslin (such a good idea!).  The top is too big in the bust by about 2 inches and the hips flare out too much.  Could someone please tell me how to adjust it?  Will making the darts wider/longer help?  I've thought about making it as it is and then taking it somewhere to be altered, but that doesn't seem like such a good idea!

Thanks so much for your help!!   Stephanie

Hi Katy,
Your dresses look fabulous and I'd never guess you're a novice sewer!  I really want to make this dress but need it in a bigger size, so if I can figure out how to resize patterns, I'm there!  Do you mind posting the link to facings?  I have a feeling I'm going to need it!

I just found this thread because I'm looking for a good shift dress.  I love yours!!  Do you mind telling me what pattern you used?  I'm looking for a summer dress - would this work in a lightweight material?  And is it easy to sew?  I'm a complete newbie!
