1  gathered a-line skirt in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by charm-city-coop on: May 09, 2009 08:21:15 PM
I keep going onto urban outfitters online these days to check out pattern inspirations (because many of the clothes seem like things I could actually make) and I keep running into gathered a-line skirts.  So I thought I would have a go at it!  I'm pretty proud of the result... it isn't perfect by any means, but its the first time I've ever modified a pattern as well as my first successful lining attempt.  Basically I added 2 inches to the top of the skirt (for each pattern panel) and also drafted the "half-circle style"... yoke?  facing?  not sure of the term for skirts!  I love gathered skirts... I made this one a bit shorter than what I usually go for but because its gathered I think I can get away with it.  Plus it seems to be kind of forgiving in terms of hiding my mistakes!  I wore it to work today and got compliments from my coworkers... but in the back of my mind I know that they know that I love to sew, and I *can't help but wonder* if they're just saying things to make me feel good because they can tell this was something I made!  lol!!  oh well, I like it anyways... on to the images!

Sorry for the blurry messy studio mirror shots!  Oh, and as a bonus, this skirt was made from a shower curtain that I got for $1 at the amazing GBMC sale here in charm city.... and it was HALF OFF!!!

Thanks for looking!

2  yet another ikea chair reupholster in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by charm-city-coop on: January 13, 2009 08:34:07 PM
Awhile ago my husband bought two of those little black ikea chairs that are like $50 or $60.  I was never a huge fan to begin with, and apparently the kitties shared my feelings as over time they completely shredded the covering on one of them.  Enter the Value Village and some really adorable old curtains.... one evening and many many staples later and voila!  a much cuter chair.  I made the little pillow the following afternoon - I was really pleased with how my piping turned out.  Look alive second chair and current kitty scratch obsession - you're next!

3  Alligator fanny pack in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by charm-city-coop on: January 01, 2009 02:07:35 PM
Thought I'd share this alligator fanny pack I made this summer.  I used vinyl and heavy canvas for the bag and some cotton I had lying around for the lining.  That vinyl can cause some trouble, let me tell you!  I ended up sandwiching old newspaper strips between the sewing machine and fabric to sew it properly.  I get so much use out of this bag, I'm really happy with it.  It's especially great for my many thrift store outings when I need to be quick and wiry to snag up all of the great goodies!  Anyhow, on to the pics:

4  burdastyle charlie bags for xmas gifts in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by charm-city-coop on: December 21, 2008 10:50:17 PM
Just finished the eighth and final reusable shopping tote from the charlie bag pattern from burdastyle.  They're all lined, and I added a little keyring at the top with the original intention of including a little "bonus card" holder on each.  Given the time frame... this may or may not happen!  They're holiday gifts for the girls at work... I think I'll make some winter bark and cookies to give as well.  That should be alright, shouldn't it?

By the way this is my first "new topic" on craftster... so my apologies if I have trouble uploading the image.  We'll see how it goes.  This site has been such an inspiration for me since I became obsessed with it a year ago... I actually have several more projects to post if this one is a success!  I'm so grateful for this community... off topic, I know, but it is such a relief to see that other *sane* adults own rabbits as well!  Thanks craftster!!
