4  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Garden swap? on: May 02, 2005 10:05:37 AM
Well i posted the decorated terra cotta pots but then i realized that may be too little of a swap so then i thought well a garden theme swap. I saw in the garden board someone painted white tiles as plant markers...so that got me going. So i thought up of a few garden themed swappable items. Decorated terra cotta pots, tile painted plant markers, garden art (that stuff is everywhere for ideas),an apron for garden tools. (i've seen them in craft and garden supply stores) what cha grrls think?

Details of swap: Alrighty....this is the first swap i'm organizing so i am going to try to be a good swap leader. This is a bicycle themed swap so ANYTHING that has to do with bicycles is allowed. You can use bicycle parts to make frames or tealight holders or chimes or anything. You can embroider or silkscreen onto fabric and make bags or shirts or anything. There are stamps and buttons of bicycles and you can use them. ANYTHING with bicycles is OK by me Cheesy I've been scouting out the craft stores and there is a lot of bike things out there so keep your eyes peeled. You have to make at least 3 decent size crafts to send to 1 person. For example if you can making cuffs or bracelets at least make two and that counts as 1 craft...but a picture frame is just 1 craft...i hope that isn't to confusing. Undecided

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer:

Name of swap
Craftster username
Email address
Your real name
Mailing address
Would you be willing to ship to or outside of the US?
What kind of bike do you own or you are interested in? Mountain, road, street etc...

wrist size?
anything else you want to include?

In addition...i AM aware of the suspended traders list and if you are on it PLEASE DO NOT send me your info because i WILL NOT allow you to sign up. I'm not trying to be mean but i'm looking out for the other crafters who WILL follow through with this swap. I want this to be a fun and enjoyable swap for all it's participants. IF you sign up and can not follow through with your obligation to this swap i WILL send your info to the suspended traders list. Sorry but it's only fair to the ones who sign up and work hard on their crafts.

Have Fun and feel free to PM me with any question or comments! Cheesy

8  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / 30's/40's Dresser Re-Vamp on: March 28, 2005 07:22:45 AM
So I was looking for a new dresser because the dresser(s) i had before just were not working...they were big and cluncky and not my style i guess you could say. So i went hunting for a new one. I knew i wanted a long, short dresser, so i went to flee markets and thrift stores and i found one! Originaly i was $40, with a mirror but i didn't want the mirror so he said he'd give it to me for $35 and my mom talked him down to $30. This is the dresser:

and with doors open (i LOVE this style)

Then, with the help of my partner in crime, we sanded down everything thing so i could paint it. This is the outcome:

It cost me $30 for sandbelts, paints and supplies.
So this is a $60 dresser!
I tried looking for dressers and/or designs for something like this but i couldn't find anything. After doing this project though, i think re-vamping furniture is a new passion.
Feed back would be lovely....thanks!
9  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Glue crazy mirror.... on: March 11, 2005 08:56:39 AM
So here is a mirror i just made. I work at a glass fusion and sandblasting studio in morristown Nj...if you are in the area come and check it out!!!

I cut a circle out the size i thought was good. Then i took scrap pieces of mirror and drizzled hot glue on the back (the black side that makes glass mirror) Then i sandblasted it.
-side note- Now...one day i was dying my hair and i left hair dye in my medicine closet. When i came home the dye kinda exploded and took the mirror backing  but the glass was fine. So i'm gonna experiment with that knowledge and see if you don't have to sandblast the back cause i know not everyone has access to a sandblaster--

then i peeled off the glue and cut the glass into 1 inch squares and put it around the mirror while adding some other colored squares. The used a tile adhesive to glue them down. Let that dry for 24 hours then grout. Buy plan white or gray grout for ANY project you can tint grout yourrself. Use acrylic paint. Then you can make any color you want. Here's the finished product.

here's a close up

let me know what you think...cause i love making em and eventually i'd like to go into business and sell em and much more things....that i will post eventually. Hope you enjoy.
