Let me know what you think! I wish I had caught the sewing bug years ago...I would have gone to school for fashion design instead of Social Psychology. Grin

5  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Newbie! What does Seam Allowance Mean? on: June 19, 2008 06:48:59 AM
I'm a newbie to sewing. I enrolled my 11 year old in sewing camp this summer and she is teaching me everything she learns. So far I've made 6 pillow cases and tonight she is learning to make a drawstring tote for which I will learn tomorrow...I invested in her and she in me!

Anyway...my question is that I felt adventurous and purchased an "easy" purse pattern. I've
STUDIED the instructions and so far the only thing I'm stuck on is what the "seam allowance" means. The pattern says place pins within seam allowance. If it says 5/8 do I place the pins before or after that marker?

Also what is a "nap"? The pattern says with or without nap?

Oh...one more thing...what do you "transfer marking's" with and what is this process for?
