821  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Re: gem stone trees on: July 20, 2008 07:55:34 PM
To get them to set to the stone i glued the coiled up excess wire it to the large stone then covered the wire with smaller similar stones to disguise the "roots" of the tree. thanks for the props guys!
822  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / gem stone trees on: July 20, 2008 07:53:53 AM
I've finally decided to actually post something that i've done!!

Ok so here is the thing by BF is fantastic, so fantastic that the last bead show i wanted to go to he insisted that we go together b/c it was a saturday and that's our day together. So after he realized that it was totally boring standing next to me playing with all the beads, he wandered out on his own, only to find the little man in the back that makes the gemstone trees, who's wife decorates them.  He was soooooo excited about how cool they were and how i had to see them.  I went and saw them, and on the sly bought one of the little kits with instructions to surprise him b/c of his awesomeness.

Here is my first attempt:

(it's about 3" tall)

It was a hit! So for his birthday recently (As a surprise) I made him a much larger one:

and here is a comparison shot so you can see the difference:

i like the way that the large one turned out, by fingers hurt for awhile from all the twisting of the wire, I think that the hardest part was keeping it a secret/hiding the thing in progress. But it was worth it!

Sorry i'm so long winded, but i just get so dern excited.

830  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: My first EVER embroidery work on: July 19, 2008 12:03:29 PM
This is really wonderful, it's beautiful. I too think that you should leave it the way that it is, I think that the outlining would take away from the piece.
