1  pig wallet (oink) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by SnoCro on: July 18, 2009 09:41:15 AM
In the winter I made this wallet for my friend who loves pigs (LOVES!).
I used the pattern from here: http://noseynest.blogspot.com/2008/05/piggy-bank-freebie.html
it has a little pig button on the stomach that you loop the string around to keep it closed (the string was supposed to be a loop, but apparently i missed one side when i was sewing the lining in.... oh well, i think the loop would have been too small to fit around the pig button anyway). It also has batting in the nose and feet to give it some 3D qualities.

Thanks for looking! C&C welcome!

2  carrot cupcakes in Dessert by SnoCro on: July 18, 2009 09:34:24 AM
last fall i made some fall cupcakes (i know, i've been a terrible craftster who doesn't post...)
i thought they came out pretty well.
these are carrot cupcakes with lemon cream cheese icing.
the carrots on top are made of carrot slivers candied and rolled, with a bit of carrot green sticking out of the top.

and i made thanksgiving pumpkin chocolate chip cupcakes with little marzipan pumpkins on top. these also had cream cheese icing on them.

3  another burger cake! in Dessert by SnoCro on: July 18, 2009 09:25:37 AM
I know there have been a bunch of these on here lately - but i really had to try.
I'm in grad school and one of the undergrad helpers in the lab that has been here for 4 years (longer than any of the grad students in the lab) is leaving to start his own grad school adventure. We had a little party for him the other night, and when asked what kind of cake he wanted he said "i want a hamburger". well... he got a hamburger Smiley

here are the pics! it's white cake "buns", brownie "meat", red/yellow icing ketchup and mustard, and green tinted coconut for the lettuce. Oh, and sugar cookie fries.

and for size reference, my friend jane with the cake(it's as big as her head!):

4  BEHOLD!!! The Solar Food Dehydrator!(image super heavy) in Recipes and Cooking Tips by SnoCro on: October 09, 2008 07:20:17 PM
My special man friend (SMF) put together this little puppy when we "accidentally" picked 84lbs of peaches at the end of august. It's a solar food dehydrator (SFD) and we can put it out in the backyard and preserve fantastic summer bounty for dull winter months. Ours loosely follows plans laid out in the book "Solar Food Dryer". At the height of the summer (and more importantly, sun!) the SFD will get up to over 150 degrees Fahrenheit so there's a vent built into the back that we can open and close to reduce the temp to the optimal - about 120-130 degrees F. With that temp, it takes about a full day to a day and a half to dry fresh peaches.

We dried about 50 peaches, plus have 20 pints of peach jam and still have probably 30 or so peaches in the freezer. Not to mention the peach smoothie binge we were on 2 months ago. The ones in the freezer are for winter peach smoothies! yum!

we've also dried shiitake mushrooms, corn, eggplant, tomatoes, green beans, apples, cantaloupe and nectarines. Unfortunately we only had about a month of good sun angle to dry before it changed and our backyard is no longer in direct sunlight for most of the day. Next summer though, we're certain to start earlier in the season and build up our winter stores even better!

5  mmmmocha chocolate cupcakes! in Dessert by SnoCro on: October 09, 2008 06:43:05 PM
Is it redundant to call cupcakes mocha chocolate? Anyway - I made cupcakes when I got home today. They're supposed to be mocha cupcakes (chocolate with coffee) with coffee buttercream but the coffee taste in the cake is pretty much totally overshadowed by the chocolate. Oh well... who doesn't love chocolate?!  Tongue
They also have chocolate covered espresso beans (whole or chopped) on top just to look pretty Cheesy

6  Brown Flowers! probably my favorite dress i've made so far... in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by SnoCro on: July 28, 2008 10:08:48 PM

Here's a dress I made partially using pink hickey's "dragon dress" tutorial (https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=252249.0), but i changed the neckline and kept it strapless. To give the top some reinforcement, and finish it off nicely I added some brown piping, and using brown bias tape to hem the bottom - my first time with both (i'm pretty new to sewing and i'm REALLY new to notions...)

I'm going to wear this to a wedding in a few weeks with a matching bag that i made (check it out! https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=260027.0)

dress and bag modeled by my bed. it's a sexy bed.

Thanks for looking! I'd love to hear what you all think!

7  Brown bagpurse (it works!) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by SnoCro on: July 28, 2008 10:02:34 PM
I made a brown bag to match a dress that i made to wear to a wedding in a few weeks. I used the tutorial here: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=234709.0 and made the same changes as multicrafty did - except i used a magnetic clasp because i had one and i'm afraid of buttonholes. It's really only the second time i've ever made a bag like this, not including a few t-shirts reconned into tote bags a year or so ago. The lining matches the dress i made... which i'm posting in the clothing section.

I like this bag a lot because i think it's casual enough that i might actually bring it out on occasion (i'm not really a purse-y kind of person. sadly... i recognize their utility, i just don't really have them/carry them), but i could still wear it to something like a wedding. It's a little floppy, i should have maybe considered some batting or something to give it a little more body. But i kind of like it's floppiness....

Thanks for looking!

le bag

teaser - here i am in the dress with the bag. they match!

le lining - and me checking to make sure the pocket actually holds things. It does! it works! hah.

Thanks again craftsters. Comments/questions/suggestions are definitely welcome!

8  Bag to match dress! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by SnoCro on: July 21, 2008 06:31:00 PM
I made a bag to match my dress! The dress is posted here: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=258576.0

The bag i made using bouncyflea's tutorial (https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=149376.0v) but I also changed it to have a wrist strap instead of a shoulder strap since i made the bag much smaller. Thanks also to klum78 for your help!

this one shows the lining (in a very bad picture of it) which matches the dress. now if only i wore dresses or carried purses....

Thanks everyone for looking! Comments/criticisms/advice are DEFINITELY welcome!

9  My "dragon" dress - thanks pink hickey! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by SnoCro on: July 21, 2008 06:18:08 PM
Here's my version of the dress by Pink Hickey (https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=252249.0)
Thanks so much for the tutorial pink! I definitely learned a lot - and i'm working on another that's strapless (we'll see how that goes!) and has a round top instead of triangles, if that makes any sense. I'll definitely post when that one's finished.

sorry there are so many photos... i was just really excited!

my friend and i were wine tasting to buy wine for an upcoming wedding that we're going to. i was very happy to be getting some vitamin D and show off my new dress!

Here i'm showing my surprise to "find" some "congratulations" signs hidden in a grape vine. Smiley

A slightly better picture of the dress (maybe) but i look really frazzled for some reason... i think it was just a really long weekend...

last one (i promise!) with a sneak-peak view of my matching bag that i made (the lining is the same fabric as the dress!

Comments/advice/criticism welcome! Thanks everyone for looking!
