1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Re: Christmas 2009, what are you making? on: December 12, 2009 11:17:17 PM
This might seem like an odd question but my 5 yr old daughter is very much into recycling, going green, saving the earth, that sort of thing, and I have decided to make a recycling kit for her, but I need some more ideas as to what I can put in the kit for her.  This is something that she is VERY VERY serious about (she wants to take ONE paper cup to the recycling bins as soon as she is finished with it).  This is what I have planned so far:

I went to the dollar store and purchased 3 large canvas bags for her to put recyclables in-= paper, plastic, steel cans.  I made signs to attach to the bags so she knows what goes into each bag.  I am making her a "coloring" book of sorts on recycling and information about recycling and why it is important.  Then I am going to make her 2-3 reusable shopping bags (she hates the plastic ones from the store) to put it all in instead of using a box to wrap it in.  But I would like to add a few other things that I can make, or can be made from recycling other stuff to give to her.

Believe me I know this is a very odd gift for a 5 year old but when I asked her if she would like her own recycling kit she was THRILLED to the point of telling her whole preschool class about it, of course they all thought that she was nuts but that's kids for you, LOL.

If anyone has any other idea I would love to here from you.  I am at a lose.  Thanks!!

It might be a little much but you could get her a screen so she can make her own recycled paper. Its a little intensive to make the framing and stuff, and the first few goes are always interesting but once its done and you have the hang of it making the paper is fun and easy. As a plus you can recycle almost any paper products.

Here is a pretty good link of how it's done!
