21  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Poodle curtain for awful retro bathroom on: June 09, 2008 02:46:42 PM
When we bought our house, it had all the original decor from the late 50's - awful shag carpeting, chandeliers, orange and brown appliances, the works.  We were able to fix all but one room - the horrible, pink and black tile bathroom.  Since it's too expensive to redo at the moment, we decided that, rather than fight it, we'd just go with it.  So we painted the upper walls teal, a la retro 50's diner, and I made a pink, fru-fru poodle curtain.

The poodle applique came from a design on a pink and black handbag I saw at a wholesale store.  I happened to have my sketchbook on me at the time, so I sketched it out and saved it for later use.  Then when we bought the house and saw this hopeless bathroom, I knew her time had come.

22  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Customized My Little Ponies on: June 08, 2008 05:45:54 PM
I've dabbled a bit in custom MLP - not much -  but here are two of my attempts.

23  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / My Little Pony quilted Wallhanging on: June 08, 2008 05:40:02 PM
I made this for my sister-in-law, who is my pony pal.  The two Ponies are Glory and Bubbles, her favorites, and they're supposed to represent her and me (I'm Glory, she's Bubbles.)

24  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Kimono on: June 08, 2008 05:35:08 PM
Using a pattern from Folkwear, I made two light summer yukatas; One in black, with cranes, and one in blue, with goldfish.  The blue one is my favorite.  I love how few seams kimono have, though it did limit the finished size a bit.  They're a bit too small for me, but they make great wall art.

25  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Daniel Doll on: June 08, 2008 10:07:27 AM
This is a plushie I made of my best friend Daniel.

It looks just like him!   Cheesy

26  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Webcomic plushies on: June 08, 2008 09:50:57 AM
I have a webcomic called Ugly Girl, and over the last few years, I've made plushies of some of the characters.   Smiley

Ugly Girl

Ugly Girl (chibi, new hairstyle)

I've also made some plushies for other webcomic artists.

Skunkadoo from Skunkadoo by Jacqui

Ton from Angry D. Monkey by Keon Brown

Pocket Kitten from Pocket Kitten Comics  by M. Neil

And The Head Doctor and Dr. Therapy, from Head Doctor Productions by Daniel B. Willingham

This guy was larger than a cabbage patch kid, and very detailed.  The top hat comes off, and is held in place by magnets hidden inside his head, and a false bottom in the hat.  He has a belly button, an appendix scar, a cabbage patch kid style butt, nipples, and (not that you'd want to know this, but) he's also anatomically correct.
27  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Cuddly, Fierce Monsters! on: June 08, 2008 09:30:37 AM
About a year ago, I was teaching my bf how to sew, and he came up with a basic pattern for a monster doll.  With that basic pattern, a plethora of materials, and a few variations, we made about a bajillion different monsters.  My mother then took the basic pattern to the kids sewing class she teaches, and they made about a bajillion different monsters.  Here are a few of our favorites:

The original monster, Sweet Pea (Joint effort, me & bf)

Pringlesnatch (bf)

The lovely and frightening Spooky (me)

The wacky Ayee (me)

Glotch (bf)

Francine (My sister)

Mista Gey (me)

Sherri Monster(me)

28  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Potted Yo-yo flowers on: June 08, 2008 09:11:45 AM
I like to make these as house/apartment/room/dorm warming presents for my friends.  Usually I paint the pots myself, too, although the bottom one belongs to my sister, who instructed me to "fill it" for her new baby.

29  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Flying Spaghetti Monster Brooch on: June 08, 2008 09:06:09 AM
For all the Pastafarians out there, it's the FSM in pin form!  My bf and I found instructions for this online somewhere, and we had to try it.  The pattern called for sterling silver wire, sterling silver beads, and tigers-eye meatballs.  We used artists wire, stone beads, and brown glass meatballs, because we're cheap.  I still think they came out awesome.

30  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Some dollies from "Creepy Cute Crochet" on: June 07, 2008 07:09:04 PM
I picked up a copy of "Creepy Cute Crochet" by Christen Haden a few weeks ago, and I think it's safe to say that I'm thoroughly addicted.

I made the Cthulu (he was the whole reason I bought the book, actually.)

The Amazon

The Monkey (I was away from home, without any red yarn or gold embroidery floss, so I'm not entirely happy with how this one came out.)

And using the Cthulu and Corporate Zombie patterns, plus a little inovation of my own, I made Dr. Zoidberg!

I also made a purple devil and the ninja, but I gave them away before I got a chance to take photos, sadly.
