21  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Re: Pac Man and Ghost with pattern link :) on: June 11, 2008 12:49:26 PM
Absolutely adorable; but yeah... I thought the ghost was a green tooth at first...

I can't crochet, so I can't give advice on any alternatives, though, sorry!

Still, very cute!
22  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Re: Chinese lamps screaming for revamp. Please help! on: June 09, 2008 02:16:08 PM
I agree with the stencil idea, I think it could look really good if you found a Chinese silk-screen pattern like a landscape and wrapped it around the lamp or repeated it a la toile.

Whatever you do, make sure you use heat safe paint or fabric (especially the fabric!), though, since it's a lamp.  Kind of common sense, but... fires are bad!

A friend got married recently, and for low centerpieces she simply lay ferns and curly willow on the table, held them down (as it was windy and outdoors) with black river rock, and placed a fake bird's nest and ceramic birds in the center.  They looked very nice and didn't get in anyone's way while eating, so perhaps something like that?  Good luck.
