21  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Painting Styrofoam? on: August 28, 2009 12:32:29 PM
Okay Smiley so I was given a very old Styrofoam head that a fella use to use at his barber shop, that was passed to my papaw (who is now passed) and was stored for several years...i was thrilled to get it when no one else wanted it.
Its just the standard white as of right now.
I have heard there are certain types of paint that are NO NO's when it comes to painting styrofoam though, is that right? that some melt it?
What about the regular water based craft acrylic paints? Would those be ok?
I want to dress her up to use as a form for my hats and things i crochet to go along with 'Uma' my mannequin head that i got from an antique thrift shop....she needs some company  Wink

thanks! Grin
22  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / To Embroider or not to Embroider this quilt...that is the question.... on: August 09, 2009 08:04:33 AM
Hello, here is a quilt i have been working on for a little cousin's Christmas present this year....
She asked for something for her room..that was zebra print, with lime green..and any other bright color. SO, I decided upon her a tv quilt for while watching the tube or playing her video games.

Question is, i am tossing about the idea of embroidering inside the solid lime squares and rectangles...what do you think? Yes or No? I have yet to hand quilt it  (its in the hoop for the pic though so its ready to go if i decide to start the hand quilting.) so now would be the time for me to decide (unless i decide to machine embroider instead of hand and then i can let it go all the way thru if i want and it be okay too)....and I am just not sure. Its already quite 'busy' looking, so i dont know if perhaps embroidering it may be a bit much?

What do you think?

Details of swap:

Do you love the cooler weather and like to have cozy things and MAKE cozy FIBER MADE things? Well then this is the swap for you!
This will be a swap where one makes something awesome for their partner using one of the fiber methods, Crochet, Knit, Woven, or Felted (wet or needle or combination), for the cooler months with their partners interest in mind!

The requirement is ONE LARGE item.any extras will be up to partners. Since it takes a while to make large fiber items, we have allowed a two month crafting period so everyone can go at a good pace, do their best work for their partner, and have FUN!
Your partner will give you a list of ideas, but here are a few for ideas for larges   shawl, a winter set (hat, scarf, mitts), set of slippers/socks, hat with matching fiber made necklace or rings, amigurumi to snuggle up with, a sweater if you are really brave lol, or an afghan, the list is endless with your imagination and your partners helpful hints!

I am requiring everyone to post or PM at least once a week to keep in the loop and so no one will have to worry since its such a long crafting period and no one needs to be falling off the map so to speak. No one wants to worry with flakers and non communication makes a red flag go up. If you decide to be in this swap, you MUST communicate!
Communication-or lack thereof, late sending (which should not be an issue with such a Long crafting period), or failure to follow craftster rules will all be recorded in feedback.

26  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / swap partner and angel board question all rolled up into one.... on: June 29, 2009 02:05:07 PM
okie dokie here is the deal  Smiley
I am organizing a swap, and right now there are only three participants & signups close on the first of July( I extended the signup period due to only being 3).
It seems like there MAY be an allergy issue where i will need to post for a partner on the angel board, but more like asking for a replacement partner...erm...even though there is no one to replace, IF no one else joins and they are ok with the requirements and all that....(still keeping my fingers crossed on this one though that more will join since interest was shown)
Is it OK to put any news on the angel boards at this time to let people know that i will be on the lookout? or just wait and see what happens....?

OR do we just end up calling off the swap until a later date due to lack of participation (i am guessing its just due to the time of year maybe) and try again later if the mods can wipe it off of our profiles? (this is if the participants agree to this if it remains the three)

Any ideas or suggestions will be much appreciated! Smiley Thanks!

NEVERMIND~  Smiley Issue is resolved!
(although it would still be good to know what you would do if you were in that situation?)

Details of swap: Grin
...
This is a swap for all of us doll/dollhouse lovers who need their space jazzed up a bit! Perhaps, you have a dollhouse for miniatures, or you own a blythe, Pullip, or a dal (or several!)and they need some new things for their special spot!
That is just what this swap is for!
The spot does not have to be a dollhouse. It can be a shelf where your doll resides, or where ever, you just let your partner know and the dimensions they have to work with, things you love/hate and viola! Let the fun begin!

This will be a 6 point swap. (Large counts as 3 points, Medium as 2, small as 1)
You can make up the points in any way you like doing your best work for you partner.

I am asking that everyone PM me once a week with a little update. (can be as simple as I am thinking, in progress, halfway doneyou get the idea) Its much easier to keep up with PMs than the thread sometimes.
You must PM myself, Im Sew Silly, and your partner, when shipping (with DC if in USA and copy of receipt if other country), and receiving.
Password you will need so I know you have read this far haha: Dalink!
If you think you will have to send late, you must let organizer and partner know before the send out date. If its been two weeks past send out and you have not sent, even with communication, you will receive a temporary negative feedback until your package is sent and received.

Otherwise, feedback will be given when you have sent and received posting pictures.
If you have lacked in communication, send late with or without communication, or did not follow the requirements, this will be noted on your feedback.

Also, if you are interested & join in this swap, please feel free to share pics of your dollhouse/area and your doll(s)! it would be enjoyed by all! And may come in handy for your partner. (although this is not required)

28  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / stained glass Doors and more- for our in-progress dollhouse made from scratch! on: June 13, 2009 09:25:45 AM
My dad and I are working on making my kiddo a dollhouse from scratch. he is doing the wood, i am in charge of making the doors, windows, lightfixtures from wire and bead....we are both pretty excited about it as we are going to make the height ceiling to floor large enough it should fit even a pullip. Smiley

Anyway, here is what i have made so far for the house.
the stained glass entry door. I tried to make it look like cranberry stained wood. its made from polymer clay that i carved with a florist pin with the stained glass (shrinky dink) inset. used wire and a clear bead for the glass doorknob. both sides look the same as its double sided.

 with light behind it:

And here is a pic of one of the 4 windows. all look the same and everything was done, door and windows, freehand.

C & C welcome and appreciated Smiley
Thanks for looking!
29  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Stuff for my doll's house swap? (includes miniatures, pullip, blythe, dal, etc) on: June 11, 2009 07:57:40 PM
there are many on here who love thier dolls enough that they have their own houses, shelf, special spot...and perhapps they need a bit of furniture to make them more comfy!?

what if there was a swap just for that?
the dollhouse can be sizes for regular miniatures, pullips, blythes, Dals, and one would say what size doll & demension of room on the questionnaire that is in need of some furniture/ jazzed up....
participants would chose a room that need furnishings as well as list some handy things like extras they may enjoy like art for the doll's walls, a crochet/knit area rug, a welcome mat! you get the idea...
what do you doll lovers out there think?
the requirements could be a large , med, and 1 small. extras will be up to partners...?
