11  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 52 ENTRIES / Fairy Inspired Wearable Art~ or my Messy Masterpiece! on: July 07, 2010 06:32:06 AM
I had a lot of fun with this challenge!
Here is a photo closeup of the final result Smiley

I used fitted crib sheets and mismatched pillowcases from my kiddo and i saw it as only fitting to allow her to decide what i was to make...thus the fairy princess inspiration!
Here is a pile of the cotton and jersey fitted sheets and cases...

I found it handy that if you trim away at about two inches or so from the elastic borders it created a handy dandy ready to use ruffle!

I did not use a pattern, just my dress form, scissors, and piecing and lots of stitching. the top and skirt are seperates and the skirt will be worn a lot as it even goes well with a fitted tshirt! (the skirt is my favorite piece)

So anyway, here is my kiddo fairy inspired wearable art....ready to frolic and have picnics!
Thanks for checking it out!

Oh, and sorry for the photo quality...i had lighting issues and tried correcting them, alas i am not a photo shop pro! lol
12  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 43 ENTRIES / Crafty Strawiffic Noggin Girl to the rescue!!!! on: October 05, 2009 06:53:43 PM
By Day...one would think this is just a oh so crafty head band...made of sewn straws...buttons, and ribbons....

but little do they know.....

Ta Da DA ..da DAAAAAAAAAAAAA~! When a crafting block hits someone...she becomes CRAFTY STRAWIFFIC NOGGIN GIRL!

Able to put an end to crafters block in a single swoosh of her wand and your noggin will no longer be blocked by the craft ickies!

lol, seriously, i had craft block with this challenge until my kiddo got involved and helped in the making of this. She thought they should be worn and loves to craft...
so, she helped me by lacing the ribbon thru the middle of the straws, then i sewed them together with my machine, next she glued the buttons on there to make it pretty...since she is actually planning to wear it. plus i only worked with a minimal amt of straws as usually we get them here and there from drive thrus....and one hates to waste them right?

She has also discovered this is neat to wear when riding her pretend horse...as a headband and whip  Grin....so...Crafty Strawiffic Noggin Girl rides again!  Giddyup! Wink

(oh and i didnt see the silly string until after i took the pic lol)

Send out date will be extended for the replacement partner since original send outs are October 9th, so they will have crafting time. OF course, the sooner she can swap with her partner the better. Smiley

A challenge to make something that has to do with H2O? Could be something with that theme, or for a garden, useful or just for looks?

(i guess this came to mind since we have had more rain in the past two weeks than we have had all year!)

17  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / The Burning Bush...wet and needle felted shawl on: September 07, 2009 03:15:46 PM

this is still a WIP but I wanted to share what i had so far since i am rather proud of it even though its still not totally finished. I am going to back it and a few other things...

I am participating in a 'Starving Artist' Gallery at a nearby art gallery this Oct-Dec. The theme is Wearable Art. I have to have all my pieces ready before the end of October, and the showing and reception begins first week of November and lasts thru December. I am rather excited and nervous, as i still have to have this item judged by the committee to be in the show, but the lady on the phone says she thought it would be In so that made me happy. I will be making other items, but this is the first one i have been toiling away on...

Its my vision of the burning bush that Moses comes across.... Smiley

I first wet felted, then needle felted the bush and the flames on the branches and other little extras here and there. I am going to look at it this way, if it doesnt have a good reception at the gallery by the patrons and buyers......i will be thrilled to wear it this fall/winter...or hang it on my wall.  Smiley

oh, and please ignore my footsies in the pic lol...thanks. Cheesy

C&C welcome and appreciated.
18  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Crafty and CHeap Ideas of how to display wearable art? on: September 04, 2009 12:40:30 PM
Hello there!
Ok, SO I am about to be involved in a starving artist gallery at our local community arts in the months of Nov and Dec. I have until Oct 30th to make my items...the theme this year is Wearable Art.
I asked and they will not have ways to display people's pieces, it will be up to the artist as to how its displayed....they said i would have to provide my own form or mannequin.
I only have one dressform, which is always in use and I dont want to leave it at the gallery for like 2 months....and the ladies that i knew who use to own mannequins no longer have them, they have sold them all.
Whatever i use, will need shoulders for hanging items upon...perhaps a waist...
any ides? I am drawing a blank at the moment....

Thanks! Smiley
19  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 42 ENTRIES / A Southern Mourning...Dress! bunches of pics! on: September 01, 2009 11:00:40 AM

I started off with two ideas when I hit the Dollar Tree and neither panned out due to they didnt have what i needed. (the lady at the counter was probably thinking i was about to take up residence i was there so long with my basket in hand) So, what is a girl to do? Think of some of her favorite things for inspiration... Stephen King, Scarlet O'Hara, Victorian attire, Labyrinth, and Zoolander of course!
So Once I spotted the thin black plastic table cloths....i knew just what to do!

Here are the supplies i started with: (i know one of the table cloths is bunchy in the pic, but thats because i got overly excited to begin and started to open it and take it out when the "oh i gotta take a pic of this first!" hit me...so i stuffed it back in )

2 black plastic table cloths
1 oval basket
1 roll of tulle ribbon
1 votive (used the cameo off the front of it)
1 pkg of paper lace doilies
2 bunches of flower stems
1 pk of black electrical tape
1 little pkg of clay flowers
10 items total!

I didn't use a pattern, just took some measurements and adjusted my dress form to size, got out the ole scissors with an idea in my head and started cutting away.
I used the black electrical tape for the piecing/construction of the dress and the hat as well. no thread, just tape! lol

I  folded the lace doilies various ways and applied them at the neck and down the bodice, and other areas using the tape.

For the hat I covered the basket with some of the remaining black table cloth and made a tie with some tulle and fixed an adornment with folded doilies for lace and some artificial flowers from one of the floral bunches & the little clay flowers.

I ended up with the lace doilies in various places on the dress, the neck, bust, top of the sleeves, and at the bottom gathers and bustle in the back. I used the extra tulle and some flowers for the tie around the waist and the cameo and a flower at the neck for a brooch.

It was so much fun to make, and it was interesting the day of the pics, it was a rather windy day lol, so it was tough getting good shots. thin black plastic and winds = cling wrap! haha  Cheesy

with the style of the dress, we couldn't help but to take some sepia shots for effect. Smiley

Anyway, thanks for looking and if you decide to give my little creation your vote, thanks a bunch! I am thinking of wearing it for Halloween since my kiddo is going as something like Cinderella..and then i guess i can look like the wicked stepmother!  Wink
20  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / what type of a craft room clock do you get when you ..... on: August 30, 2009 07:05:40 PM
Put together a crafty mom who just got her a crafting space (finally!) and a super awesome crafty preschooler? One very inspiring, lively, and utterly uniquely special clock of course! lol
I easily lose track of time while crafting,..my kiddo and i love our crafting time, so we needed a clock, but just any ole clock would never do.
So we got canvas, a ton of paint, and i let her go nuts with it. Next out came the button tin and glue, glitter glues, lace paper, and other bits 'n bobbles from the drawer that she thought needed to go on it. Then finally the clock parts (she let me help a little here lol)! We are both pleased over it and i just had to share my kiddos craftiness!
C&C always welcome Smiley
