1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: Where the Wild Things Are hat + how-to + pattern! on: September 06, 2009 09:21:01 AM

I totally need a hat for college(this british weather can be quite cold on the ears!) and this is perfect!

I may have to leave the whiskers off for getting the bus etc...i might tamper some more and make floppy ears...

hmm..eek,im not really sticking to the pattern! ah well,it is still amazeballs!
2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: Polyester FrumpFest to Cute? Asymetrical Party Dress! on: September 06, 2009 09:15:40 AM
I actually really like the neckline!

It is completely differentf from the boring button down style things you get

aaand the length means you can wear it with jeans and a cardi when it gets a little bit chilly!

also,if you arent happy with whats going on at the waist (bunching,un-even hem etc) then do what i do-whack on a nice, thick waist belt and then just tuck bits in till it is the perfect shape!
(possibly the best cheat i ever learnt!!)

love it!

the cardigan looks so soft and has that perfect slouchy-but-not-baggy fit.

and that dress is stunning!
I especially love the fans/folded fabric bits on it

awesomesauce as always Smiley

the name tags are awesome too, especially the little star Cheesy
5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / prom dress from kilt on: August 04, 2009 07:57:17 AM
i am late posting this(prom was the 3rd of july) but better late than never!

As soon as i had gotten into sewing, i knew i would make my own dress. the night got closer and closer and all i knew was that i wanted a tartan one.

in a stroke of luck i found a massive kilt in a record/vintage odds and ends shop and used that.

The dress is lined with an old bed sheet and has contrast details of bright pink ribbon.i had a pink bow in my hair and pink nails. i wore black knee high socks with tiny white bows(i added myself),white trainers and a union jack bag with a chain handle.and a vintage french silf scarf as a wrap aaaand leopard print sunglasses, pearls and gold chains as bracelets and a kilt pin on a chain.

full length(and how i will wear it now Smiley ).i didnt wear the jeans to prom and wore the chains on my wrists. i got the jacket to wear on the night but it was far too hot in the end

in this one you can see my necklace, some of the wrap,my sock and my shoes. and the fact i became a flamingo in pretty much ALL the pics....

you can see the bag, chains on my wrists and more of the wrap/scarf in this one

I think the fact i come from a punk background and i enjoy the whole london fashion thing really shows Smiley
we british do prom punk style!!(well, just me really)
6  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / eyemask on: August 04, 2009 07:46:48 AM
I made this in early june when exams were in full swing.

I had been to John Lewis and found an offcut of this amazingly kitsch love-heart fabric and knew I had to have it.

later on,the night before my chemistry exam, i was not ready and slightly panicked.instead of stuffing my head with even more revision, i made a sleep mask to make sure i had a good nights sleep before the rest of my exams Smiley

It is made of the loveheart fabric with some heavy canvas fabric in the middle to block out light.it also has pink satin ribbon and tiny white bows.

here it is,modelled by Ann-kristin(given to me by my exchange partner Ann-kristin) the tiger Smiley

thanks for looking Smiley
(and thankyou to the lovely modly people for putting it in a more sensible place Smiley )
7  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / first ever crochet-a hat! on: August 04, 2009 07:12:34 AM
This is my first ever crochet.

i put 'how to crochet a beret' into youtube. i got the threadbanger video but couldnt understand it at all.all i knew was that they wanted increases followed by single crocet at first, then lots of increases, then lots of single crochet, then some decreases.

I got out a notebook, took some rough numbers from various patterns and worked out where to put the increases so it was equal etc.

It took about 3 or 4 hours(i watched pulp fiction and some spaced as i worked)

on my desk

on my head

from above

after finishing i put some single crochet rows on but it was too small for my head Sad
to fix this i unravelled the single crochet and just put the one row in so it still had some stretch

thanks for looking!
8  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / cheshire cat costume on: August 04, 2009 07:06:41 AM
So, this year I had my usual fancy dress party(even though i am now 16) and i didnt have a costume!

On the day of the party i finally got my bum into gear and made myself a cheshire cat costume.

It is very simple. A two colour dress,a woolen plaited tail and some ears i knitted and put on a headband.
I was doing the whole disney thing of the two-shades-of-purple colour scheme but had no purple so i used pink Smiley
(my birthday was on april the 5th so i am VERY late posting this)

It started off with a sweetheart neckline(done by gathering it at the top) but the excessive boogy-ing and air-guitar all added to the breakage of these stitches.

front(taken today hence no gather at top)

back and me holding tail

close-up on tail bow

me,looking about 4, on the night.you can see the neckline with the gathers here and with my ears

me and some of the other rejects party guests.

thankyou for looking!

10  CLOTHING / Designer Clothing Homage / The queen's dresses(inspiration/interesting) on: July 30, 2009 09:45:55 AM
I'm not overly sure if this fits but hey...

This is a link to a set of photos on the guardian website

It shows various images of dresses Her Majesty the Queen of England has worn on several tour occasions. There are some amazing things there and I thought I would share it as there are some amazing shots of beading on some of the dresses that may interest some of you.

I know i'm bookmarking it just to have reference of some of those bodices for next time I make some kind of evening wear!
