1  Not a skunk in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by amparo1981 on: January 28, 2010 10:34:27 AM

So, it's my boyfriend's birthday on Sunday. Ever since we started sharing a bed, he's been calling me "badger" because of the "mwroooarrrr" sound I make waking up. When we went to my parents' house one weekend, I decided to show him "The gods must be crazy II", my mostest favoritest movie of all time (well, almost. Right behind Monty Python and the Holy Grail. But I digress).

There is a major scene with a honey badger in it. And that was it. Apparently, I am the exactly same thing, a creature equal parts droll, aggressive, fixated, and affectionate. So he expanded my nickname to honey badger. I'm working on my thesis now and don't know how long we'll be in the same city, so I decided to make him a stuffed honey badger to cuddle with while I'm away. (He's using MY Stitch stuffed toy right now, for anyone who might think I'm turning him into a big old softie *g*). It's my first stuffed animal, no pattern used no nothing. Because the fur was relatively expensive, I'd originally thought to do a mockup first, but then winged it instead (probably because I know I wouldn't have the patience to do another one "for real" once the mockup was done). All I did was sketch out the silhouette and then construct the black fur around the longish white piece. The tongue is lopsided, and the eyes are a bit cross-eyed, but considering I did this in one afternoon and that the eyes are the only store-bought thing, he better like it. I sort of know what to do better next time, e.g. make claws and give a bit more form to his tail, but C&C greatly appreciated!

2  Rabbit of Caerbannog in Halloween Costumes by amparo1981 on: November 02, 2009 05:33:01 AM

So this year I decided to be the Monster of Caerbannog, from Monty Python's Holy Grail movie. I got the idea because of the bunny ears tutorial from threadbanger (sometime in May, I think).

The costume wasn't particularly hard to make; the furry ears, then some armwarmers and legwarmers of the same fur (not pictured). On the night of the party, copious amounts of black makeup and stage blood, black fingernails, a t-shirt with "Caerbannog University" + hand grenade on it, vampire fangs and I was ready to go. Bonus for no cold ears and warm hands throughout the night (yay!). I did make the cap on the large side, so I was forever adjusting it, but two bobby pins donated by a kind witch kept it in place.

Everyone kept asking me if I was the bunny in Donnie Darko, but I guess I didn't show up with a little headless doll of a knight, so they're excused.

3  Blue sari skirt in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by amparo1981 on: May 29, 2008 09:29:53 AM

After weeks and weeks of lurking and cribbing tons of great ideas from all of you, I'd like to present my blue sari fabric skirt. It's still a bit long, but I'm working on it. I tested an elastic type gathering at the hem, but I'm not completely happy with it. Maybe if I do the other side, too, it'll look better. I bought it for something like 2euros per meter from a friendly Indian at the local flea market and had to think of a skirt form that wouldn't destroy the pattern. I still have about half a yard left over, so if anyone has an idea what to do with it, suggestions are welcome.
