21  Jack Skellington Jack O'Lantern in Halloween Decor and Parties by beki710 on: October 30, 2010 09:07:54 AM
So would you believe it I'm 22 and have never carved a pumpkin! My Mum insists that I was never interested in doing one when I was younger, but i can't see why I would pass up the chance to do anything messy  Wink
So here is my first ever carved pumpkin! Jack Skellington from Nightmare before Christmas. I decided to keep it simple for my first time, I really enjoyed making it so watch this space next year!  Cheesy

(also as a word of warning for anyone that decides to draw their design on in Sharpie, Sharpies are not 100% pumpkin juice proof. Who knew?!)

22  Buttons, old bracelets, tapemeasures... Nothing is safe! in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by beki710 on: October 18, 2010 09:28:04 AM
I got a little crazy over the weekend. Nothing was really safe in my house... here are a few of the things I made!

I'm a little over whelmed for buttons at the moment, so button broach it is!

I got given some awesome craft related buttons for my birthday over a year ago by my housemate. They were begging to be used, so into a craft charm bracelet they went!

Even tape measures weren't safe! This made a cute little broach  Smiley

And some earrings. The leaves came off a really horrible tacky bracelet I got at a car boot sale with the idea to use them for something else. Finally got around to it!

23  We have too many apples! Apple Tarte Tatin and Mini Apple Pies in Dessert by beki710 on: October 14, 2010 05:34:50 AM
Our very kind neighbour asked if we would like some apples off his tree, which we said yes to. He brought round about 30 apples! So this is my first use for them!

I've never made a Tarte Tatin before, I wasn't 100% successful. The pastry shrank away fromt he edges a bit in the oven and then when I turned it over about half the apple top (bottom?) stuck to the pan. I kinda of rearranged it back onto the Tarte but it would of been nice for it to come out all in one!

Can you tell which side didn't come out as well?  Wink
If anyone has any tips on this please let me know I'm sure I'll be having another go!

I then had some left over apples and pastry so the solution:

Mini apple pies! I just chopped the left over tarte tatin apples up a bit more and added some cinnamon to them. As you can see I did manage to competely run of pastry hence not all of them having lids!

I'd also appreciate some suggestions about what to do with the rest of these apples. They are pretty large I've only used up 4 so far!!

24  Lighthouse Cross Stitch in Needlework: Completed Projects by beki710 on: October 10, 2010 11:53:05 AM
Okay this is my first post over on this board!

I made this for my partner who collects lighthouses in the Buy Nothing Swap. Unfortunately a pic of it never got posted so I thought I'd post it over here. It's not a great photo as it was one I took quickly before I sent.

This is the biggest cross stitch I've ever done and it took me a long time to complete. I used a pattern and learnt from this experience I can't count (one side of the oval is wonky!) Some of the colours are made up as it was a Buy Nothing Swap and I had to go with what I had! I'm not really a cross-stitcher but I'd love some comments on this!

25  Mmm Pie... Spanish Pie?! in Recipes and Cooking Tips by beki710 on: October 10, 2010 11:46:33 AM
Offered to cook for my parents this evening as I am living rent free under their roof.  Roll Eyes Was told I needed to use up some chicken and peppers... And so a spanish chicken pie was created!
I based it on this recipe from BBC: http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/9974/spanish-chicken-pie

With a few adjustments, instead of using roasted peppers from a jar I roasted my own, and then sliced them up, I used red, yellow and orange ones. I also roasted a courgette along with them because I thought it was lacking in veg a little.

It's pretty easy you can cook everything beforehand and then throw it together in a dish to bake. If I do it again I will add more paprika than the recipe suggests as I couldn't taste it, but then again I like paprika!

I meant to take a photo when it came out the oven but I was hungry  Wink

So here is an action shot after me and my parents had demolished most of it

26  Re: One Tiny Book Swap - GALLERY in The Swap Gallery by beki710 on: October 09, 2010 06:07:31 AM
Firstly I want to apologise for being so slow in posting these pics up in the gallery. Long story short I've been working overtime at 2 jobs and barely had time to eat!

I want to say thank you to my awesome partner xTabsx I know she had major swap anxiety about her book but I love it I think it's beautiful it's everything I love in one small place!

Here's my fantastic book, filled with drama, pin-ups and Alice in Wonderland!

These are my 2 favourite pages:

and the rest I've thumbnailed if you want a closer look  Wink

And she also sent me this awesome mask as an extra!! I love it, I collect them so love to get a new one!!

27  I love Cooking Swap? in New Swap Theme Ideas by beki710 on: September 29, 2010 03:46:21 PM

So I'm thinking about a swap all based around the kitchen?

Maybe not necessarily cooked items (could be hard for international swappers!) but recipe books, aprons, chefs hats, cookie cutters, food related jewellery and t-shirts?

I'd be happy to organise if there is enough interest!

28  Re: Buy Nothing Round 5 Swap Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by beki710 on: September 14, 2010 10:16:56 AM
I got my awesome package today!! My neighbour kindly took it in when I'd popped out for lunch, the box was HUGE!

Inside was an awesome decoupaged storage box! I need some storage so badly and this is perfect!!

Inside I got some dairy free treats! Hooray!! Some delicious flapjack that I don't think will last very long! It got a little bashed around in the post but still tastes great Cheesy

I also got a really cool vintagey style apron, similar to one on my wists Smiley

I also got some cool earrings and a really cool nautical broach!

Thanks for everything!
