1  Vouge 2973 Jacket - in Grey Wool (image obese!) in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by fairies-in-disguise on: June 19, 2009 10:17:39 AM
I decided to see if I could actually make a complicated jacket before I attempted "The Mysterious Galliano Pirate Jacket" - https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=28780.0

So I picked the hardest looking jacket I could find (and liked the look of), this one being an "Advanced" pattern, and set to work!

In Action (also the only front shot of it closed I have....):

please ignore pathetic expression and positioning...

Front - open:

Sleeve zipper detail (closed and open):

Pretty Lining:

Incedentaly, this is lined in the same fabric used for the red dress here - https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=309810.msg3555919#msg3555919

Close up of the button I found in John Lewis's (I wasn't even looking for one! Cheesy):

Sorry about the over-load of pictures, but I'm tremendously proud of myself! Grin
Thanks for looking! Cheesy

2  Gold and Brown Flower Dress in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by fairies-in-disguise on: June 19, 2009 09:49:43 AM
Yet another post today! Cheesy I think I'm making up for not posting anything for 10 months.... whoops!

This dress is the result of thinking I had a few weeks till a party, then realising "no, that party is in two days".. bad times!

So it's a bit rushed, and I'm not happy with the finish, and it broke during said party (resulting in an improptu trip to Tesco for safetypins!), but I think its pretty good Cheesy.

"Action Shot":

and of course, it would look sooo much better on Esmerelda (my dress form) than on me, but hey ho.

Thanks for looking!  Smiley

3  Silver and Black Halter Dress in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by fairies-in-disguise on: June 19, 2009 09:35:47 AM
This is the first dress I've ever made the pattern for myself, and I'm not so sure I like making patterns to be honest! I find it so much easier to use a commercial pattern and alter it as I see fit, but I do like the freedom making it from scratch myself gives... I'm torn.

Anyway, I made this dress to wear to my best friend's 18th

It was ironed and smooth when I wore it, but after washing, this is how it came out, and I think I like it crushed and wrinkly better! Cheesy

This is also a bit of a re-con, as the bodice and the underskirt (you can see the netting sticking out) are taken from a dress I wore to my Christmas dance 3 years ago. The silver fabric is a sort of taffata-y thing.

Thanks for looking!  Cheesy

4  Green Linen Dress in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by fairies-in-disguise on: June 19, 2009 09:28:02 AM
I'm going "topic happy" today!  Smiley - its to make up for the 10month leave!  Cheesy

So anyway, I finished high school on the 12th of May, and we had a big dinner and a dance to celebrate/commiserate, and I obviously needed something to wear...

So my green and white striped linen dress was born, and disregarding the advice that "pink and green should never be seen" I went with pink accessories all round!

I didn't make the accesories by the way - the necklace is a vintage one I inherited from my grandma, the belt is from asos.com.

Strap Detail (to show off the contrasting pink topstiching):

"Action Shot" (please ignore the rediculous expression!):

The pictures don't do the fabric justice, its totaly gorgeous and has a lovely weight to it.
This is a more acurately coloured picture:

The pattern I used was Simplicity 4258, but altered quite dramaticaly - I completely did away with the waist seam, changed the straps, etc.

Thanks for looking!

5  Masked Ball Dress in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by fairies-in-disguise on: June 19, 2009 09:12:14 AM
This is another piece I made during the last 10 months, this one was for a Masked Ball we had at school in March! (I deserve a kick for being sooooooo slow to post! Cheesy)

I did a typical "me" thing - bought a dress online, didn't like it, took it apart, and made a new one! Cheesy

Close up of "ruching" (proably wrong term) on the bodice:

Back, with lovely fake corseting because the zipper broke!:

The bodice is Simplicity 4258, and the skirt is just a rectangle ruffled onto the waist.

Thanks for looking!  Cheesy

6  Social dresses in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by fairies-in-disguise on: June 19, 2009 09:05:42 AM
Well, I seem to have been an absentee from Craftster for a while.... Undecided ooops. So I figured it was time to post some work from the last.... 10 months..... Cheesy

Last year, about the end of October I decided it would be "fun" to make four, yes, you heard right, four dresses for the school Christmas Social (a bit like prom, but in winter). It took a while, and I spent most of the first part of December (the dances were the week of December 18th) running about in a panic thinking I'd never be finished in time!  Cheesy But, all worked out in the end, and I managed!

This is the professional group shot we got taken.

Unfortunately, because all the girls have their dresses, I've only got single photos of my dress (which is a very altered Simplicity 4258)

Back (complete with box pleat  Smiley  ):

Close up detail of buckles:

My dress was designed after one of my male friends dared me to wear a kilt to the social, so I did my own version!  Cheesy

The blue one (also Simplicity 4258) and the red one (Butterick 6534) were mostly "invented" by the girls who are wearing them, but the white dress (Butterick 4915) is meant to be in Marylin Monroe style, with the addition of a little lace.

Thanks for looking!

9  birthday button dress in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by fairies-in-disguise on: August 20, 2008 02:29:00 PM
So, its one of my best friend's birthdays in a few weeks, and she's been "casually" dropping hints that she'd like a dress. I decided to be nice and give her what she wants! A birthday dress!  Cheesy

I've been having button mania recently, so this is one of my outlets! You'll see what I mean!

Anyways, the pattern is Simplicity 4258, and its made from some acetatey stuff.

Do you think she'll like it? I hope so! I'm rediculously over proud of myself for this, mainly because the zipper is dead-straight, and the hem is my best ever! Cheesy

10  button box in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by fairies-in-disguise on: August 18, 2008 11:19:28 AM
Well, it's not technically paper crafts.... but it seemed to be the only place this would go! Huh
There is a little paper on there!  Cheesy Anyway, without further ado, I present to you, the button box!

The top /\
And the side view \/

Its not very obvious on these, but there is a sort of gold sheen to the lid, which makes it pretty and sparkly! Cheesy

It's going to be a gift for a friend, I hope she likes it!
