71  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / SNAKES ON A PLANE!! on: July 26, 2006 10:49:29 PM
**Samuel L Jackson finger puppet on pg 3!**
My fabulous boyfriend is completely obsessed with the upcoming film. He has a t-shirt, bumper stickers, and talks about it whenever either snakes or planes are mentioned. Naturally, I couldn't think of anything better to make him for part of his birthday present than some cute knitted snakes with an airplane to perch on!

72  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: self-designed razor shell lace cami - with pattern on: July 26, 2006 03:51:01 PM
Here's my version-- I got bored with all that ribbing and cut it down to about an inch. I also was too anxious to start the pattern that I grabbed this random acrylic worsted weight yarn I had in my closet. I thought it was peach coloured, but when I looked at it in daylight the next day (after having knit about 10 inches on it) turns out it was construction-worker orange!! Oh well. Also, since the yarn was thicker, the pattern doesn't pop as much as I'd like it to.

I definitely want to make this again, with something a bit closer to the reccommended yarn. I love the pattern, thanks for posting it!!

Thanks! They were a blast to make.

So I made Mr Hat, and realized it was a lot of fun, so I went on to make Mr Twiggy-- two sticks tied together, and then I knit him a t-shirt:

(sorry, the flash washed out the color a bit)

Then I made him the Christmas Poo. He is fully poseable, with pipecleaners in the body and also the arms, and he's definitely my favourite. Eyes and mouth were made from felt, then painted:

All three, right before I wrapped them:

My friend LOVED them. They were a huge success, and a ton of fun to make.

Okay, here's the pattern- let me know if something needs clarification. I've never written one before. I based the pattern on a basic mitten pattern.

CO 36 sts on 6mm DPNS in purple
Knit in 1X1 ribbing for 2-3 inches
Knit one row all the way around

Then you start the hand gussets:
-knit 1, place marker. knit 18, place marker, knit 1, place marker, finish round.
-Increase 1 st, knit around to the next marker, increase 1 st. You should now have 2 sts in between the beginning of the row and the first marker, and in between the second and third markers.
-knit the next row
-increase the first stitch of the row, and then the last stitch before the first marker. then knit around to the second set of markers. increase 1 st after the first marker, then increase 1 st at the st before the second marker.
-knit the next row
-continue this pattern until there are 10 sts in between each set of markers.
-next round: knit across the first 10 sts of the row. put them on a stitch holder. then knit to the other set of markers, knit across those 10 sts, and place them on a marker.

- knit 3 more rounds with the purple.
-switch to a beigeish skin tone and knit 4 rounds.
-switch to black and knit 1 round.
- knit 3 rounds of red
-knit 3 rounds of white
-continue the red/white pattern until there are 3 red sections and 2 white sections. Cast off and sew the top of the hat closed.

-place the sts for one of the arms onto your DPNS and pick up an additional 4 sts from the body.
-knit 6 rounds. on the first of those rounds, knit the 4 sts you picked up together, so there are only two. this'll hopefully prevent giant holes.
- switch to beige, knit 3 rounds.
-on the next round, k2tog all the way around.
-take the needles out and thread the tail of the yarn through the sts and pull tight.
repeat for the other arm.

to make the hat brim, single crochet around the black row.

to make the beard and moustache, embroider with a tapestry needle and brown yarn.

There you have it!! I hope it makes sense.

(Mr Twig and Christmas Poo on page two)

I made this puppet for my friend's birthday. I hope he likes it!

He took 2-3 hours to knit. I didn't have a pattern, but based it off of this picture: http://www.csps.minx.co.uk/epiimgs/407/sp407_garrison.jpg

And here he is! (complete with my mom and dog..)

78  CLOTHING / Clothing Sewalongs / Re: Promalong - Making your own Prom dress? Join the club! on: April 23, 2006 08:35:54 PM
Here's my prom dress, made from about 25 ties. I got the idea from a couple posts around here, but especially this: http://www.melissasuestanley.net/pages/sewing.htm

It's not perfect-- when I sit down, it bunches up around the stomach but that's pretty much unnoticable. I like it a lot and I can't wait to get out and show it off!
