1  Owls Cake Topper in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by Craft The World on: June 15, 2011 09:48:35 AM
We made owls for our upcoming wedding cake topper! My fiance Brian has never ever used Sculpey before, and he made the green owl by following my instructions and mimicking my methods. So proud of him!!!

The eyes are a button within a button, with puffy paint for the iris. The bellies are modpodged fabric. We painted them rather than making them out of coloured Sculpey because we had more control over the colours that way.

The nest was my doing: it's hairy-looking (dark green) yarn that I coated in white glue and varnish, wrapped around a saran-covered bowl, and then pulled off when dry. The green dried really dark, so we spray painted it white, which should be good as our cake is going to be orange or purple--not sure yet.

If you want to learn more about our rather unusual wedding, you can check out our blog at projectpriceless.blogspot.com

I received from Molliemoo!

Stickers! Awesome stickers that have already been being stolen from me by friends!

A small tote, which I'll likely be modifying into a patch for my soft-sided guitar case.

True Blood inspired jewellry. Sorry the pic is so crappy!

True Blood inspired yarn! My fiancee is going to knit me something!

Thanks, Molliemoo!

3  Need help finding the name of this fabric! in Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions by Craft The World on: May 15, 2009 05:47:42 AM
Hey all,

Recently I've been seeing some stuff made out of this folky, 70s-ish, printed fabric (cotton I'm thinking), though I haven't seen it anywhere where I could ask the craftsperson where they got it or what it's called.

My partner and I have a master plan for our new apartment, and I HAVE to find this type of fabric, in fair quantities, for a bedroom idea we want to see happen.

I've attached a few photos that seem ABOUT right...

This is a pendant I bought recently at a craft show that has the EXACT right kind of fabric...I should have asked her where she found it!!!!

This one is done in the vintage style I'm looking for, though a little updated.

Often this style has little dear, mushrooms, owls, or other woodlandly creatures (hedgehogs, etc etc); once in a while there's little apples or flowers.

The question is: does anyone know 1. What this vintage type of print is called? 2. Where to find it?Huh

Thanks, Craftsters! If anyone's going to know, it'll be someone on here, eh?

4  Ideas for decorating a HUGE mirror? in Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions by Craft The World on: May 10, 2009 05:43:29 PM
Hey Craftsters,

I'm moving into a great new place, but there are two GIANT mirrors that have no frame.

One is in the living room, above the fireplace, and is simply glued into the area...if I can get pictures of this, I'll post them later. Our living room will have a theme: sort of a surf shop/vintage surfer type thing (hibiscus, beach colours, a surf board coffee table if I ever find a surfboard to use, etc.).

The second one is in the bathroom. It's above the vanity. The bathroom will have a steampunk type theme, if all works out.

Both mirrors are easily 4 feet long by 3 or 3/12 feet tall. And because we're renting, we can't stick anything PERMANENT to the mirrors...though I can use double-sided tape to adhere, say, a framing mat... I'd rather not have to screw in big pieces of wood.

Generally speaking, it's a frame-type decoration I'm going for, as opposed to filling in the whole mirror.

Ideas? And if you have ideas and know how to do them, please include some instructions! Also, if you have seen any projects on Craftster or other sites that would give me ideas, feel free to post the links!

THANK YOU ALL for your help!

UPDATE: I still haven't done anything with the mirrors, but I've now got some pictures for you.

Here's the bathroom one: (steampunk theme room)

And the living room one: (surfer theme room)

Keep the ideas coming, please!!!!

5  Cool Painting of Grrl in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by Craft The World on: March 12, 2009 09:57:20 AM
Hey all,

So I recently swapped with superhooker, and this is the painting I did for her. I wanted to post it in the 'more art, less craft' section, because I haven't really posted anything in here yet, despite the fact that I'm a painter/illustrator by trade.

Anyway, here's one of my signature grrls, done for superhooker, on fabric. It was hard to send her out into the world, but s.h. loves her, so I'm happy.

I think she was about 16"x16", or maaaaybe 24"x24"? Not sure. Anyway, hope you all like it!

6  Re: IYP 11: the Winter Formal Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by Craft The World on: March 12, 2009 09:45:10 AM
I received from superhooker; I asked for a scarf/shawl like the ones that Charlize Theron wears in "Sweet November", and a pair of funky fingerless gloves; boy o boy, did I ever get nice things!

Sorry my pictures suck, I have a terrible camera.

My fat pug sitting with my goodies.

Trying to get a better picture that does these items justice! Super knew that I like greens, and these are great greens. The wool is alpaca.

A close up of the pattern work:

Thank you so much, Super! Suddenly the cold weather doesn't seem so bad, cuz I have fun stuff to wear.

7  Super Awesome and only $5! Felt dress-up board: Mermaids, ahoy! img heavy in CHALLENGE 33 ENTRIES by Craft The World on: December 01, 2008 12:50:08 PM
So I have a little boy to craft for this year; he's a special kid...his favourite colour is rainbow, and his favourite thing is mermaids. My partner and I were talking about how there aren't enough mermaid things out there, especially for little boys...so I came up with this idea, when I remembered having a felt doll set as a child. Here's the finished product:

He can change the two mermaid's tails, bikini tops, and hair; he has 5 or 6 choices for each, all glittered and decorated for his enjoyment. Also, note all the fishy friends the mermaids have to play with, which also can be moved about.

What's really great is that the felt just sticks to itself! Easy to play with, easy to make new extra pieces!

Just the mermaids, without their gear.

The board: just felt glued onto foam core, then decorated a bit. Also, make pockets to keep all the bits in.

A mermaid close up for ya.

And the best part: I spent about $5.00 on felt, and used sequins and puffy paint that I already had laying around the house...so the whole gift only cost me about $5.00! Without a doubt, this will be the fave gift this year.

Don't forget to vote!

8  Re: I Love The Office USA Edition Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by Craft The World on: November 14, 2008 06:38:54 AM
I got my package from 3toedsloth yesterday! My camera is on the fritz, so I made a friend take pics. Here we are:

The awesome tote:

Pam pens! You Americans are so spoiled! We don't have great merchandise like this in Canada, that I've found! We don't have Target. Sad

An altoids tin like Jim's, with a flippy-outty thing that has all these quotes and pics on it. I love this!

Detail shot:

A big glass paperweight with Jim's cute face!

And I don't know why, but one of my photos won't upload at all! If you look in the first pic, there are two cell phone charms: they read "BEETS - BEARS - BSG" AND "1 <3 JIM - JAM" (not sure why it says Jam???) Anyway, I LOOOVE these but the pic won't upload! I also think some of these photos got stretched out or something. Stupid photo hosting! Sad

3toed, THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOO much! It's been a while since I got a swap this cool! You rock! I hope you loved your stuff as much. Hurray!

9  Fat Pug becomes a Bee! in Halloween Costumes by Craft The World on: November 03, 2008 07:21:06 AM
Mr Darcy, my pug, is so tolerant of my crafting. Here he is, a happy little bee! This was my first time making anything for a dog, and without a pattern. It had to be cheap and easy, so it's just felt. The wings, we bought at the dollar store. This was inspired by the fact that Darcy is SOOOOOOO fat!

10  Re: Everything Sanrio Swap! in The Swap Gallery by Craft The World on: October 23, 2008 06:53:59 AM
I received from Phoenix_Michiko yesterday...let's show my swag off:

Phoenix knew I love Tarepanda, so she stuck with him throughout. Here's the first item, a headband with crocheted Tarepanda:

She also threw in a bag of lovely shells, that she thought I may be able to craft with (you're right, Phoenix!)

A fantastic Tarepanda crocheted change purse:

Another extra:

And best of all, a crocheted Tarepanda winter hat! This picture is terrible, I couldn't get a better one, I'm soooo sorry!

Well, Phoenix, you are a crochet machine! I'm tickled with my goodies. Enjoy swapping, and I cannot wait 'til you get what I've sent you!
