13  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Super deal or wast of money? on: October 06, 2008 09:47:37 AM

That is a link to a spinning wheel on ebay that im considering buying since is close by and looks like i might beable to get it for just 5 the catch is I dont think its all there and since nether I or the owner know anything as yet about spinning wheels I was desperately hoping some wonderfull craftster on here could have a look and tell me if anything is missing (which i recon it is) and also if said missing stuff would be relatively easy and inexpencive to replace i dont mid spending the equivalent of $3 on a spinning wheel thats missing bits if I can pick up or make the missing bits relatively cheaply.
Please lety me know so I dont wast my money you wonderfull helpfull people   Kiss

Oh and another quicky er you can spin any thickness of yarn on any spinning wheel right?
14  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / To spin or not to spin is that the question? on: October 06, 2008 05:46:53 AM
I should be reciving my 1st batch of fleece today to use on my brand new drop spindal I made out of some cds and a chopstic.
Im realy new to spinning and a wonderfull lady fron freecycle has ten tonn of fleece in her loft from when she used to keep dorset sheep and didnt knowe what to do with the fleece.
Iv been reading up on the net as best I can about treating fleece befor spinning and I gotta say I find it all rather confusing and conflicting. My biggest worry is that the fleece may well have been in her loft for a few years maybe and onr site sugested that this might render it useless now since that would ruin my excitement and oportunety to get a huge great big pile of free fleece I refuse to believe it would actualy be useles wools wool right?
Any way any advice would be appreciated on what to do and if there is anything special I need to do as its a bit old I bought some die and am itching to make my 1st skine of blqack and purple wool.
