2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Birdy bird tunic on: June 11, 2009 03:52:32 PM
I made this today! I'm so in love with it! I'v been planning it all through the week, when i was supposed to be revising, and now i finally got to make it!
The day after my exams i made the pattern up and tested it out in some mega ugly fabric, then i went and bought the fabric yesterday, the green is cotton lawn and it really nice and floaty and the white is some quite thick linen.
I looove the little birdy, hes sooo cute,i cant rememeber where i got the pattern from but i'll try and find it. I think its makes a really cute little detail, i was going to put some of the leaves and flower patterns elsewhere iont he dress but i think i prefer it plain on reflection.

And a detail of little birdy

This was really quick and easy to make up, and im thrilled withthe result! I'd love to hear what people think Smiley
3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Tote for Ems on: May 17, 2009 08:26:38 AM
It was my friends 18th birthday on firday, i'v known her for about 15years now so i though i;d better make somthing nice! I got thisfabric off a woman who lives at the end of my street, she dint have any use for it and siad i could have it, its 100% linen and soo soo pretty!!! I loved working with it and i think this is the nicest bag i'v ever made, which is impressive, as i broke my foot in 2 places so had to use my left foot. using left foot is hard!! I kept trying to make it stop by lifing my fight foot and being confused about why it kept going...

In the bag i put some freddos, a pair of earrings, a purse, a headband, a broach on the outside and some meat. The meat cos she had a bbq last night, i ate loads of sausuages and some chicken kebabs and everone got really drunk and her mum rented out some sumo suits so we could have wrestles (well, i couldnt cos if the foot but the others did) And the night eneded in a blurr of wotsits and vomit. She loved the bag though!!
4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / A-Level textiles - Horror film inspiration (quite a few pics) on: May 14, 2009 05:51:51 AM
For my A-level textile i had to create a garment based on the theme of fantasy meets fashin design. I chose horror films as my 'fantasy' (stretching the breif a little)  Now, being me, for some reason i thought it would be a good idea to deisgn an outfit with three parts to it... Fortunatly i really do enjoy sewing and did the majority of the work at home during the holidays!

I had to draft all the patterns from basic blocks. The easiest was the dress and the hardest was the corset, although the corset turned out to be the easiest to put together so its cool!

Okay so the three parts to the dress, First, a full length simple slip style dress, with big ruffles at the bottom, the ruffles didnt come out even nearly was ruffly as i wanted (i made a mistake in my pattern making or somthing) And i didnt have enough time/ fabric to re-do them. So they stay as they are, but try and imagine them mega ruffly Tongue

Next theres a shirt, made of sheer lace, that goes over the dress. The sleeves are ment to be really drapey to reflect a cape, standard wardrobe essentail for horror film baddies! And the big collars ment to look pretty evil as well!I finished the edges with a decorative embroidery stitch, but i dont have any close ups. Unfortunatly this is the only part of the project that does fit Sad

And last, going over both of the other items, is the corset, i love this fabric so much! I think its meant to be for curtains or somthing, but whateverm my use is way better Tongue This is my favorite part of the project, fits perfectly and my first time usong boning, i think is the most well made part of the thing!

And fanally some pics of the shole sha-bang. I did have some pic of it on the girl who wore it for the catwalk,. but i think mum somehow deleted them.. typical, she looked great in iit though!

5  CLOTHING / Designer Clothing Homage / Help making dress from sheer Matthen williamon fabric on: March 03, 2009 10:47:26 AM
I have been literally hiperventilating for the past half hour, theres a women who livess at the end of my street who offered to let me have a look through her fabric stash because she feels bad not using any of it. Very exciting at the best of times, but i found out that she knows this place where you can get the cut offs of designer fabrics from the collections, one day a yeah on discount. Anyway, along with alot of other beautiful quility fabric she gave me 3 meters of matthew williamson spring 2007 fabric... pure silk... beautiful print... i have never been so thankfull in my life, i cant belive she would give that away!

Anyway, now that i have the fabric i'm thinking this dress from the collection, the other in this fabric is too floaty and swishy for my taste but i think this is adorable!

So so cute! Any ideas on where to start? I'd say i was an intermediate level sewer so i might be able to (end up) makingmy own pattern for at least the top part if i cant find anything.
The fabric is really see through, i think i'll have to put another layer under it for it to be decent.

Any advice is appriciated!
6  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Flip top on: March 01, 2009 08:48:40 AM
My mum is awesome! her and had went off to john lewis yesterday to buy kitchen gadgets and she picked up some really cute discount fabric for me as well! I really love the print and its nice and heavy, perfect for bags! I wanted to try out a new style, i'v seen bags with tops like this before but they always seem to be clutches.

It has two inside pockets as well, i'm well chuffed with how it came out, was my first go at the style, nice and easy! I think i'm going to put this on my folksy in a few days, i'v been making far to many bags latley!
I'd love to hear you thoughts on it!!
7  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Problem with my overlocker AND normal machine! on: January 14, 2009 11:33:22 AM
I'm in utter dispare, neither of my sewing machines are working!
I got my overlocker for christmas, i have threaded and re threaded it about 20 times, changed to tension to the settings it gives in the instruction guide and hecked it all loads of times, but my stitches are still really loose over the end of the fabric, and also the thread in the left hand needle keeps snapping. I dont know what to do with it! Its been driving me insane, i'm sure i have it threaded properly and everything!
Any advice on overlockers would be greatly appriciated!

Also my regular sewing machine has started having a few problems! its stopped picking up thread from the bobbin every few stitches, it will doa couple of stitched fine then skip about 5. I inhereted the machine of my grandma about 2 years ago and have had no problems with it up untill now. I'm hoping ot take it in to be serviced in the next week so hopefully that will fix it but thought i'd ask if anyone knows why the thread would stop picking up! i just dont understand it!

Thanks for you help!

9  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Opinions? on: January 08, 2009 07:01:25 AM
Okay, i made this hat yesterday (while i was supposed to be revising) but i really really cant decide wether i like it or not... its really warm which is good but dont know wether the style works or its too big or it just looks like a dead purple thing. I would really appriciate some opinions on this the yarn is on discount and if people like it i might get a few more balls and try and sell some.

Those are picture of me wearing it (conviniently put into a nice little table for you Tongue) I think the problem might be its too big... or maybe its the fluffyness i really dont know!!

Whats do you think? And if you dont like it what things do you think could be changed to make it better?
Thank you!!
10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / caped cruisader... on: December 31, 2008 06:00:36 AM
Only i'm not as cool as batman, but with this aweseom cape that i'v made, maybe i can get a little closer!

I got the S.E.W book for x-mas and had to make this straight away! The material was about 10 from abakhans and i still have a load left, i might make a skirt with the rest. This is without a doubt the best thing i;v ever made, in terms of it looking quite proffesional, the fact i'll wear it, and thats it was fun to make. The pattern didnt come with a collar, i did the pattern for that all by myself!! (sooo proud)

anyway, pics...

The pics are a bit dark, but i think you get the idea....  All comments are appriciated!!
