41  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: I really dont know what to do :( on: September 22, 2008 06:56:15 AM
I'd finish it, but maybe find a new home for it (or save it for the right moment). Giving it to her now really depends on how shedeals with loss - it could be comforting, or it could just reminder of what she's already lost. Everyone grieves differently, and you'd probably have a better idea of that than anyone.

But it would be a nice gift for someone else, I'd hate to see all that hard work unravel.

Oh, man, I can't resist scarves! I'm down.
43  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Re: Bride of Frankenstein costume help! on: September 20, 2008 09:50:26 AM
That's exactly what my mom did! She picked up an old wedding gown and she's going as the Bride of Frankenstein(...'s monster) this year. She doesn't want to wreck the dress, so she's adding black details to creep it up a little, instead of getting it dirty or ripping it up. The hair/makeup are pretty indicative of who you are, so you can play around with the outfit a little.

I keep changing my mind!

Now I'm entertaining the idea of dressing up as a suffragette:

Maybe only funny to me because I'm a Women's Studies major.  Cheesy  But I think it'd be cute. I so rarely get to wear a practical sash.

amy winehouse (and for a girl-boy costume, maybe her lawyer running around trying to clean up her messes?)

not so original, but definitely fun to act out!

Or the guy could be her husband Blaaaaaaaaaake! Just get some prison garb, a fedora, and look all cracked-out.  Grin

I was thinking maybe Birdgirl from Harvey Birdman! That would be awesome BUT i'd have to find each piece that I need for the costume separately, and I haven't even started yet. Its all pretty basic so it shouldn't be too hard. Except for the those wings. What to do aboot the wings? Any ideas???

So yeah, its either that or Enid from Ghost World.

...Or Bruce Lee!!!! Still undecided Sad

My boss went as Harvey Birdman a few years ago, I think she took a small backpack and cut out the back panel (with straps attached), then attached giant wings made out of bristol board. She could just slip them on and off as she pleased. A hole could be cut in the jacket to accommodate the wings and hide the straps, because they'd be hidden underneath.

Can you get lighting that you could mount on the wall or side of your bookshelf? A row of lightbulbs set into a backboard, like a vanity-type thing?
