1  Re: Traveling Little Visitor Swap Round 30 GALLERY! in The Swap Gallery by AlishaMisha on: November 06, 2019 10:05:02 AM
I am behind on pics, but here are some highlights:

In NH, Daisy visited the Nansen Ski Jump. Built in 1936 it was the largest ski jump at the time, and it remained the largest on the East Coast for almost 50 years. In 1938 it held the first Olympic rials. Olympian Sarah Hendrickson went down it in 2017 in celebration of returning competitive ski jumping to it. (It has been restored after closing in 1988).

In the White Mountains, Daisy saw two moose!

Every year in the fall, the North Conway area (plus several other towns) have businesses that make displays out of pumpkins. There was a Dr. Seuss one at a restaurant with this cut-out.

Another display of "hikers" at a gift shop that is inside of a covered bridge.

There was a display in Eastern Slope Inn showing historical photos of the skimobile that was built in 1938. It carried skiers up the mountain and was removed in 1990.

Also displayed is a ski lift seat turned into a bench (this is common in North Conway. Even the local McDonald's has a gondola inside that you can sit in).

To the left of the pic above you can see a rock shop. We went inside and found a striking resemblance in a fossil! Smiley

Went to Crawford Notch in the White Mountain National Forest.

There was a display there. This lobster claw came from a 14lb lobster! (To put it into perspective, we usually eat 1-2lb lobsters)

Daisy fed some ducks at the pond there.

(Okay, that is a lot. I will hold off and show more another time)

Well, I had two weddings and was in the ER all night between them, so I crashed and slept all day Monday. I realized Daisy was left in my parent's car when I woke, because I drove my grandfather home in his. So by that point my parents were already on their way to NH (which I believe we are all going again today, but this time I am going). So my mom took the liberty of taking Daisy sightseeing. Which was really good, because it is peak foliage and I have been home not well all week other than appointments anyways. Can't come all the way to New England and not see the foliage!

I am still at the wedding (first of two for the weekend), but I thought I would pop in to show a peak. Daisy is here as my date. They are matching my dress! Dashing! <3

Daisy (Pronouns are they/them/theirs) arrived a day earlier than expected!!! I am SO excited!

This pic was taken at my house at high tide. The grass is still high, but as the weather changes that will die off and the water will open up further in view. I hope to capture this change. (ugh, why won't this rotate?!)

Their first adventure, I brought them to the first thing locally that screams "MAINE!!!". The lobster on the building is MUCH bigger than the pic makes it look.

Thank you guys! I really appreciate the kind comments! I have been carving for going on 8 years now, so I have learned to try to become one with the rubber, talk to it, hydrate it, let it grow. Just kidding, I just stab it with knives. Tongue

Averia - I have some tricks that really help my process. I plan to make a tutorial some day about it. So I am a knife carver as opposed to a gouge carver. I use gouges to create effects sometimes, but mostly a #11 blade. I use a magnified LED Ottlite, which is AMAZING (I have the floor/table top transforming one that is all in one unit, not a separate light from magnifier). I just do a low-tech transfer with tracing paper (great for drawing and customizing). I go over it with a black Le Pen, wash/dry, then cover the rubber in Staz-On in Mustard. This locks in the ink, but also shows a contrast between what has been carved and what hasn't. Oh, and my material is just Speed-ball Speedy-Carve. It is late and I was at a fair 2.5hrs away for the day on 3hrs of sleep, so I am not sure if I am missing anything or if I explained poorly, but many things can be answered in this post: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=458809.0

Those Stitch items are adorable!!! What a coincidence! Cheesy

I received from Allons-y! She made me a tiny banner for my millipede!

I like to decorate her home with cute little decorations, mini LED string lights, etc. Some of that is for me, some of that for her, and some of that is to soften her image for people who are afraid of her. Anyways, I woke Sylvia up for exercise, handling, and for pics. I love it so much! My favorite color is purple and this matches my condo. Also, it matches the current lights, purple bats! Smiley I keep squeeing (I do that a lot, huh? I can't help it.) at how cute it looks and how it adds to the overall look. Her home is a never ending project and I love that she has this adorable banner now! Cheesy Thank you so much!!!! <3

Aw, thank you all! You are way too kind! Smiley

AlishaMisha is the stamping queen! Oh how I wish she and I had of "met" here on Craftster before I practically drove past her house this summer without even knowing it! I love my puffin stamp!!
I originally read this right before heading out the door today. Later on the radio was playing Dancing Queen and the whole time I thought of you and kept laughing when my brain changed dancing to stamping. Tongue And yes! A meetup would have been so fun! I mean you were JUST here before we met! We almost went to the same festival! I am pretty sure you did drive right near my house. I mean, Rt.1 is within walking distance! Unless you went some unusual way then you did! Cheesy

Here is that "childhood toys" series I was talking about. I was carving for nostalgia's sake for an upcoming letterboxing event, so I went for "good enough for my own standards on my own self, but not my best". I just kind of kept wanting to get to the next toy and then the next. It was an obsessive streak. haha

I don't want to assume that everyone knows all the toys because we all come from various generations and countries, so I will list them:
Top Left: Fisher-Price Cozy Coupe
Middle Left: Tamagotchi
Bottom Left: Skip-It
Top Middle: View Master
Bottom Middle: Ty Beanie Baby
Top Right: Polly Pocket
Bottom Right: Lincoln Logs

Hope it brought some nostalgia to some of you too!

TheMistressT - Your paperwork is so fun and very aesthetically pleasing!
_________

Now that all my partners have received, here are the last bit of things I made in the Ongoing OTT swap.

This magnetic needle minder was made for curiousfae. I saw she liked Swedish Folk Art and considering I have Swedish heritage, I figured this would be a good theme to get in touch with my heritage and learn more about that side.

I made these stamps for Allons-y. She is a Disney/Disney Parks fan like I. So I chose to do Timon from The Lion King (the movie was listed as a theme) in a hula skirt (definitely my favorite scene from the movie). I also did Pooh in a safari outfit, because she likes Pooh and Animal Kingdom. Pooh in this outfit can be found on merch around Animal Kingdom, so it seemed like a good fit.

This stamp was made for BigBangMomma. We share a connection with Maine and Puffins, so the last stamp I made for her seemed fitting (she chose the theme) to do an Atlantic Puffin to combine the puffin and Maine thing.

I have since made 7 more stamps involving toys from my childhood. I need to clean up some lines and such before I show them. I wanted to make like 500, but I forced myself to stop. They are donations to a letterboxing event and I am making more for another series to it, so I didn't want to get too heavy on the postage. haha

9  Re: Re: Swedish Folk Art Magnetic Needle Minder in Needlework: Completed Projects by AlishaMisha on: September 23, 2019 07:24:49 PM
Thank you everyone! Smiley Very kind of you!

I love the colours and the design.  Smiley
I took pieces of this design to make it. I could only fit so much, so I just grabbed what I could.

I had never heard of needle minders before this site, but now I kind of want one... Definitely bookmarking that tutorial! Grin
I didn't either! They really are useful! As I was making it I had a moment of "crap, where is my needle?". Ironic to loose it while making this! hahaha  Cheesy

Tiny embroidery has been my newest obsession lately. I cant stop drawing designs and looking for inspiration.
I definitely fell in love with tiny embroidary while doing this. I might make a pendant some time. I actually don't know how to embroider. (shhhh, don't tell anyone!) I have just gotten away with a slow-style backstitch and french knots for small elements for projects. I really need to expand.

I received from Averia! It is an ADORABLE pocket flower press! She made is 10000x better than I would have made it for myself! I would have never thought to make it in book style or make it decorative! She included extra sheets for me too! Oh and look at this adorable pencil! I would have NEVER thought to add that in. I can not wait to use it. I will have to think up an adventure to go on to collect some flowers; even if it is in my yard.  Cheesy I now have that water reminder bracelet, so I will stay hydrated on that trip!  Wink Grin  (which btw, I used over the weekend out of state with success) Thank you so much Averia! I love it dearly!
