11  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Once You Pop Swap Round 7 (CLOSED; SENDOUTS June 23) on: June 25, 2008 03:09:27 PM
Thank you to those who voiced concern.  We are fine, it was just crazy with SO MANY bodies.  Most of the people and animals who were staying with us have been able to go home now, so there are just a couple of extras.  I should be able to craft now, but I am SO FAR BEHIND.  I feel horrible about it.....I will be working as speedily as my schedule allows and trying very hard to get it done as quickly as possible.

As I have informed Ma Rut and my partners, I will probably be sending a tad late- I am in Iowa City in the midst of all the flooding, and since I am on high ground (thankfully!!) I have TONS of evacuated friends and animals in my house right now, and it's nearly impossible to craft......but it shouldn't be too late....I feel really bad, especially since this is my first swap (go figure.....).....but I'll get it out as soon as I can

14  COOKING / Dessert / Re: I. Hate. Fondant. Here's my seashell cake. on: May 25, 2008 09:29:50 AM
I love the cake!  The shells are gorgeous! Some tips.......1) when working with fondant (particularly mmf!) you need to repetitively slather your hands in crisco....this keeps the fondant the right texture, AND keeps it from sticking to your hands.  It is definately frusturating trying to shape something when you can't even get it to pull apart from itself your you.  2) You can get fondant recipes at www.cakecentral.com (hope admit doesn't mind I did that).  Personally I still use mmf b/c it is much easier to make in my opinion.  Though I did buy fondant from walmart for my last cake (a farm one), just because I was on a really tight time crunch.  It did seem a little easier to work with.  I have though, never actually covered a cake in fondant or mmf- though I use it regularly to make figures.

The lake is blue food gel.  I cut a little of the cake out of that area (not all the way to the pan though- just about 1/2 the depth), then filled it with the gel

20  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: Shawl to skirt on: May 18, 2008 11:12:54 AM
Thanks!  It was actually already angled, as it was a shawl (there was meant to be a triangular shape in front and triangular shape in  back)  Really, all I did was cut it apart and add the panels to make the neck hole big enough to be a waist hole.  Oh, and I added elastic, which I was told is not a normal "starter project".....and I definately didn't do it perfectly, but I'm still happy with it considering.
