2  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Pop-up Pig: Diabetic Birthday Card! on: January 20, 2009 05:05:55 PM
So, I found this great card on http://robertsabuda.com/popmake/index.asp which has a bunch of fun pop-up how-to's with downloadable patterns.

So, my friend is a diabetic, and feels a need to eat copious amounts of apples, specifically 3 a day for lunch. And in this case 'low' refers to being low on sugar, when you should eat simple sugars, and being in a less than fantastic mood. So, I can make tasteless jokes into epic birthdate anniversary cards:

I used file folders from work to make the card: made an envelope out of a red folder.
3  Halloween / Halloween Decor and Parties / Franken-Bert Jack-O-Lantern 2008 on: November 01, 2008 03:23:20 PM
There is a severe lack of jack-o-lanterns in this forum! So if you've got pictures I think you should post them. Pumpkin carving is as much a craft as costume making.

This is my Franken-Bert pumpkin!

This is a homegrown pumpkin that didn't turn orange, carved with a homemade pattern with a Frankenstein style Bert from Sesame Street and a pigeon on his arm. The mini Frankenstein pumpkin is the perfect match!

Thanks for the suggestions Smiley

I put the speech balloon on the inside left flap. The speech balloon doesn't make a whole hell of a lot of sense the first time you read it haha.

6  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Spiderman Card - (Message) Suggestions Needed on: June 20, 2008 01:00:52 PM
Hey, I'm making a birthday card and I'm not sure what to have on the front.

I went with spider man... and it's for a 23 year old, so that makes a lot of sense.

So do you think this would be a good way to go with the front, or can you suggest something better?
7  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / James Bond Themed Birthday Card on: June 15, 2008 05:17:36 PM
James Bond themed birthday card - thanks to those who replied with glue solutions. I ended up using a minute amount of white glue, which you can't see in most places haha.

Front - gun barrel scene which opens all the bond movies - this is the original with the stunt double

Close up - card closed

Inside - the gun barrel outline on clear plastic - This is where I wrote my message

Inside - the blooooood

Card and Envelope

Address and Sean Connery

8  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Paper and plastic(ish) bonding issue: any suggestions? on: June 12, 2008 10:40:50 PM
Hey guys, I'm having some trouble bonding materials on a card.

The card is black card stock with a raised stripe pattern

The cut out is a semi-transparent almost plastic type of paper which rips, but is difficult to cut: I bought it from Michael's.

I used double sided tape to attach the semi-clear plastic-paper to the card, and in most areas it is okay, but in certain areas i am having trouble keeping the two materials bonded. In intricate cuts the plastic-paper is curling up. So I'm wondering what I can use to stick to down

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks guys!
9  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Ocarina - Clay Project on: May 05, 2008 06:17:14 AM
I guess this kind of counts - I made an ocarina back in high school. Basically it's really easy and really fun.

I learned how to do this from the Complete encyclopedia of crafts.

To make your own it really isn't hard once you understand the process, if you've played a wind instrument you shouldn't have a problem with the reed, otherwise it might take you a little bit of time/frustration, but you'll be really happy once it works.

I made a turtle, my mouth piece is done wrong because I'm stubborn. The green is glaze and underglaze, the brown in the grooves on the shell, the finger holes and the swirl are acrylic. I carved and etched my ocarina after it had been drying for a few days, but I would suggest doing anything while it is still a little bit moist

Good luck! Hope that helps anyone who wants to make one.
10  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 27 ENTRIES / Fire Hazard on: May 03, 2008 02:25:42 AM
Three images which I did not create, cut out of newspaper, taped to a vase to make light. Well okay, the "light" part is provided by electricity.

I used a glass vase is from Michaels and drilled a half inch hole into it. I used mismatched electrical parts to wire  this beast, but it's totally not a fire hazard... not at all... I know what I'm doing!

So I chose three and four tone pictures and used layers of paper to create the tones. The darkest colour is made by 3 layers of newspaper and hidden under the outside layer. While the lightest colour is simply the outside layer of plain paper. I cut each layer out of one piece of news paper and used double sided tape to attach the layers/pieces together.

monkey nipple.

The newspaper pieces are taped to the outside of the vase, but under a piece of white paper.
So when the light isn't turned on it is a very cool off white block.

light - off

The vase has two sides, the front has a skull, woman's face, and a shark.

Front - light turned on

The back of the vase has a very cool monkey, you don't think he's mad about being put on the back... do you?

Back - light turned on

Thanks for looking, have a great day Wink
