1  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: Imagination: The Mind Craft on: January 11, 2012 05:02:45 PM
I guess the one that comes to mind most is the round-robin story telling.  Where you make up a story with your friends line by line, taking turns?

That's a good one. I haven't heard many that include other people.

Hello I am working on collecting imaginary games that people play, either as adults or children.

While this isn't a physical craft, it is a sort of reality-shaper and I don't feel like I am out of line in asking.

So, please tell me, what sort of imaginary games do you play or have you played as a child?

So many of these crafty tattoos are beautiful! I have posted this one in the weaving section but I think it deserves to be here too. I love it because 1. it's of a shuttle, 2. it's good, 3. it fits on my arm so nicely

This started as an idea for a cover up of my mid 90's black sun on the back of my neck:
I wanted to get a tree, because I love the way a tree grows and evolves (branching, rings, eternal record of it's history tracable within, etc), and I also love trees as symbols in mythology and contemporary culture.
I began to look at "tree of knowledge" imagery, because I am a teacher, and I think that the quest for knowledge is profound, and what separates humans from animals.  I also like Eve's story, and am generally fascinated by female archetypes in mythology.  She is usually viewed as the temptress in this scene, but I think she's the hero.  Ever heard of the quote "well behaved women rarely make history"?
Adam and Eve also factor heavily into my background in art (drawing and painting major) and art history, as well as my Italian Catholic roots.
I found an etching of Adam and Eve, and altered it a bit.
Anyhow, it's on my back, and it was done by Lizzie Renaud at Speakeasy in Toronto, and I love it.  She did an amazing job of bringing by vision to fruition.

Oh fuckin snap I love this tattoo
5  FIBER ARTS / Weaving: Discussion and Questions / Re: help with tablet weaving please on: July 10, 2010 11:29:40 PM
It might work to beat it harder
6  FIBER ARTS / Weaving: Discussion and Questions / Re: Learning to make tapestries? on: July 10, 2010 11:27:18 PM
What exactly are you trying to do? Create images?
1. Set up your warp
2. Make a shed and put your shuttle through just the part you want
3. beat it with a fork instead of the beater bar (this will just make everything flat across!)
4. repeat

hope this helps
7  FIBER ARTS / Weaving: Discussion and Questions / Reading a complicated pattern on: July 10, 2010 11:23:59 PM
I am trying to set up my loom but I'm befuddled. My pattern in is the Handweaver's Pattern Directory
There are two set up boxes and I don't know which one I'm supposed to do first. There are also two weaving boxes and I'm all D:
Okay, so I know this post doesn't make much sense. I'll get to the book and take a picture of the page asap.

This is so beautiful. I love the idea of making a little clutch with it (on the website).
