11  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / January skein of the month scarf on: May 29, 2008 03:17:37 PM
So, I entered and won a skein of the month contest hosted by Storey Publishing and Webs yarn store - yea me!
A beautiful skein of yarn comes once a month with a pattern for it and this is January's:
Sheep shop yarn

and here is the scarf:

Each month is a different yarn and pattern - this is getting addicting very quickly! This yarn is really nice to knit and the pattern, once I got the hang of it was fairly easy.
12  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Some One Skein Wonders on: October 23, 2007 11:34:16 AM
A LYS had a "everything must go" sale because the owner was retiring. By the time it got to 60% off there were still some lovely yarn, but most of it only a skein or two were left of any particular colorway. So I bought $65 worth of various yarn, pulled up my One Skein Wonders book and have started to work on x-mas presents.
This one is knit using the yarn called for Cascade 220. See that tiny bit of yarn to the left? Yup, that is all that was left. I love that!

This is the Twirly Top hat. I used a bamboo yarn instead of the yarn called for and size 8 needles instead of the 7s.

I highly recommend the book - so far (knock on wood) I've enjoyed every pattern I've made and most of them are just difficult enough to keep my interest, but not make me crazy.
13  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Survivor: China swap? on: August 21, 2007 12:13:46 PM
Survivor China is just about to gear up (Sept 20th). I'm a major Survivor geek - only one I missed was the Africa season (work conflict - darn pre-tivo).
I'm thinking - notebooks, remote control holders, fire starting kits, coconut scented soap, stuffed sharks, immunity idol stuffies, tv diner recipies...
Like a medium and two small items so we can get them done and off in time for about mid season?
14  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Magknit's Summer Sky on: August 16, 2007 11:26:43 AM
I really want to try this one, but it will be my first "sweater" and it looks a little difficult (pattern charts and all). Does anyone want to try this one along with me?
15  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Greenthumbs swap - Harvest edition? on: August 01, 2007 11:59:49 AM
I've loved the greenthumbs swaps so far. I was wondering if anyone would like to do a "harvest" swap. I'm thinking lavender wands/sachets, dried herbs, beauty mixes (soaps and tinctures), recipes (esp. zuke recipes for those who planted waaaay too much Smiley ), a little indoor growing project for fall. Along those lines.
We might have to keep it US only because of all the plant products.
edit to add - I'm thinking signups late Aug mailouts mid Sept?
16  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Garden trivet cross stitch on: July 16, 2007 01:29:06 PM
I made this trivet for a swap. I wasn't having any luck finding a rose pattern that I like, but wouldn't ya know it there was a free pattern for just what I wanted hanging next to the floss. Love it when a plan comes together Smiley
Thanks to supermedic for the photo.

19  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / "Trashy" summer book swap on: June 18, 2007 11:09:42 AM
I can't be the only one who reads "trashy" books in the summer. The kind of paperback that is engaging enough, but if it ends up getting dropped off the pier, you wouldn't dive in after it. Or something fun, that you actually enjoy, but don't want your friends knowing you read.
One summer, when I was a kid, Shogun was what everyone at the cabin was reading and my aunts and uncles actually had to tear the book into sections and everyone sat on the beach with their little section reading away.
So maybe one used paperback and a craft like a book mark or book cover (to cover our shame)?
20  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / cross stitched sampler swap? on: April 05, 2007 02:50:45 PM
So you would get a list of say 5 of your partner's favorite (short) sayings, phrases, quotes or lyrics. Then you would make one cross stitch sampler no larger than say 8 1/2 x 11. Kinda like subversive cross stitch but more personalized.
Like this cool one made by weeta:
If the quote is particularly long you could do it more like this one made by me:
You would have say a 3-4 week crafting time for this one.
