2  COOKING / Dessert / Faux Wedding Cake on: September 30, 2008 04:36:04 PM
I want to become a professional cake decorator so I need to expand my portfolio. To help me out a friend asked for a wedding cake (she is only 15 and nowhere near ready to get married but she wanted one anyways) So I designed and made this. It is my first time doing a layer cake, in the future I will use suports so it doesnt lean. I'm really happy with how this turned out. The K E on the top heart stands are the intials of the "bride and groom" Katie and Edward (Edward from Twilight Wink )
Let me know what you think Cheesy

4  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Still Life Painting on: September 26, 2008 05:50:19 AM
I made this for my fine art class. We had to do a still life - which I had never done before. I wanted to keep the color scheme simple and not to busy. We were also supposed to make it so that your eyes are drawn to the different portions of the picture.

I think that the glasses turned out disproportionate (they look like they would fit my littlest brother  Roll Eyes)

I zoomed in on some of the key parts of the painting: The rose, the book, and the ipod.

What do you think? Comments, suggestions always appreciated.
5  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Spy Party Help on: September 12, 2008 03:39:30 PM
My little sister is turning 14 in the beginning of October - when she grows up she wants to work for the FBI. So this year she wants a "spy party". I'm in charge, woot!

So far I have come up with:
Invitations: Cut the letters out of magazies (ransom note type of thing) but it will be "your mission should you choose to accept it"

Identity: In the invitation will be their cover identity and they will come in character

Activity: Scavenger hunt at the mall- we will send each group w/a digital camera to take pics w/ the items (ie, a bottle of shampoo that costs more than$10, a crying child, etc.)

The only thing I have thought of so far for the cake is an fbi badge but i want to do something cooler than that.

Do you guys have any ideas to help with this? Thanks!
6  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Star Trek Collaged Frame on: August 05, 2008 01:13:51 PM
I love Star Trek!!!!  Cheesy And I have a TON of Star Trek Comics that are just sitting there cuz they are cool- I don't read them anymore because I remember all the stories. I joined the Star Trek Swap and just knew that I had to do something with them.

Enter plain wooden picture frame.

So I went to work and decapitated a large portion of the DS9 characters in one issue Smiley and voila!

and the side

Overall lots of fun!    Grin
7  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Crafty Like a Fox! on: August 05, 2008 12:40:01 PM
My first tote bag! Hooray!
Its made out of muslin and  then I painted it. I made it big enough to hold books from  the library!

The Front: With a crafty fox  Cheesy

And the back:
It says crafty like a fox, I made the letters look like various crafting items  Smiley

I am very happy with how it turned out and had a ton of fun making it! Cheesy
8  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Floppy Disc Notebook on: August 05, 2008 12:19:10 PM
I was inspired by cherryrose's post: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=237781.0

And decided to make my own and I love it! I use it for everything!

And inside are sticky notes! My favorite!
9  COOKING / Dessert / Star Trek Enterprise Cake on: June 08, 2008 07:12:03 PM
So I made this cake for the Star Trek Round 3 swap. It was my first time using fondant but it was a ton of fun.

The only thing is I wouldn't recommend shipping cakes, sadly they do not arrive whole.  Cry

The saucer section is just a regular round cake, the posts in the back are those pb chocolate wafer cookies (I'm not sure of the exact name) and the warp nacelles are twinkies Wink It was so much fun to make!
10  COOKING / Dessert / Mailing a cake... on: May 21, 2008 02:18:18 PM
Can it be done? Well, can it be done and arrive not completely destroyed? Huh I want to make a cake for the swap I'm in but I am hesitant to do it because I don't know how it would ship. I know I could buy a cake box but would that keep it from getting all banged up on the way there?
