1  Faux Wedding Cake in Dessert by captjaneway on: September 30, 2008 04:36:04 PM
I want to become a professional cake decorator so I need to expand my portfolio. To help me out a friend asked for a wedding cake (she is only 15 and nowhere near ready to get married but she wanted one anyways) So I designed and made this. It is my first time doing a layer cake, in the future I will use suports so it doesnt lean. I'm really happy with how this turned out. The K E on the top heart stands are the intials of the "bride and groom" Katie and Edward (Edward from Twilight Wink )
Let me know what you think Cheesy

2  Still Life Painting in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by captjaneway on: September 26, 2008 05:50:19 AM
I made this for my fine art class. We had to do a still life - which I had never done before. I wanted to keep the color scheme simple and not to busy. We were also supposed to make it so that your eyes are drawn to the different portions of the picture.

I think that the glasses turned out disproportionate (they look like they would fit my littlest brother  Roll Eyes)

I zoomed in on some of the key parts of the painting: The rose, the book, and the ipod.

What do you think? Comments, suggestions always appreciated.

3  Re: Nancy Drew Swap (SIGNUPS CLOSED, Sendouts: September 12) in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by captjaneway on: September 20, 2008 07:27:11 PM
I received from Pantsafari today! I don't think we have a gallery so I'll post the pics here.

An overnight case to keep in my car so I'm ready for any situation! Just like Nancy!

And a monogrammed luggage tag!!!

The inside....

With a secret compartment! How cool is that!

Inside the bottom

Thanks Pantsafari! I love it! She also made me a really awesome card but I forgot to take a picture of it.
When I read her card I had to start laughing because she mentioned Nancy being a world traveler and well....my project is along the same line Smiley

4  Re: Summer Reading Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by captjaneway on: August 08, 2008 04:44:47 PM
My package from Ninipops is here! It's so awesome!!!  Grin

The books:

The both sound so interesting! I'm so excited to start reading them!

An awesome "Bibliophile" Bag for me to use at the library! It has a special pouch attached for my library card!!!!!!!!!

The pouch!

I'm so excited about this because a) I needed a bag to bring home books from the library and b) I hate having to dig through my wallet when I'm ready to check out the books
I won't say what I put in her package because I want it to be a surprise but as has been manifested before in the swap- partners are sharing brain waves!

And last but certainly not least- A notebook for me to keep track of books I want to read! This is wonderful because I am always forgetting what books I'm looking for.

Thank you so much Ninipops! Everything is sooooo awesome!  Cheesy

I love Star Trek!!!!  Cheesy And I have a TON of Star Trek Comics that are just sitting there cuz they are cool- I don't read them anymore because I remember all the stories. I joined the Star Trek Swap and just knew that I had to do something with them.

Enter plain wooden picture frame.

So I went to work and decapitated a large portion of the DS9 characters in one issue Smiley and voila!

and the side

Overall lots of fun!    Grin

9  Star Trek Enterprise Cake in Dessert by captjaneway on: June 08, 2008 07:12:03 PM
So I made this cake for the Star Trek Round 3 swap. It was my first time using fondant but it was a ton of fun.

The only thing is I wouldn't recommend shipping cakes, sadly they do not arrive whole.  Cry

The saucer section is just a regular round cake, the posts in the back are those pb chocolate wafer cookies (I'm not sure of the exact name) and the warp nacelles are twinkies Wink It was so much fun to make!
