1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Retro-style "coture" dress on: August 15, 2010 12:35:33 PM
I found a free pattern online at the VAM www.vam.ac.uk/vastatic/microsites/1486_couture/create.php when surfing around for dress ideas. I had the fabric lying around after buying it a year ago for some other project which never came about...

The pattern is called a "coture" dress, which sounded really impressing, but it wasn't that hard to put together. I took about 20 cetimeters of the skirt after assembling it, buth other than that, the fit was OK.

I don't live in the US, so I can't enter the MadMen competition everyone is going on about, but if I could, this would be my "Peggy" dress... everyone wants to be Joan or Betty, but I'm really more of a Peggy girl... (and extra bonus points for hand-sewing the last details while watching two episodes of season 3... right?)

I received my package from Blupaisan a couple of days ago, but got really caught up in non-internet stuff, but now I'm finally going to post...

I really LOVE all the stuff in the package, the first thing I picked up was the bag from a recycled cardigan...

And a box covered in nature photos she took herself, containing  home made candles with dried flowers on them... this was my FAVOURITE part of the package... wow for making your own candles...

And the book: The autograph man by Sadie Smith... I read "White teeth" and loved it, so I can't wait to start reading this one

Thank you SO much for all the nice things!

10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Vintage dress+tank top reconcstruction on: May 21, 2009 09:14:48 AM
I took a vintage dress with a great pattern and ripped it apart at the seams. I then sewed the bodice (?) on to an old black tank top I had lying around and reattached the skirt to where my waist actually is at its smallest (not at hiplevel!). The whole tank top is still underneath the dress to prevent any see-through-ness from the slinky acrylic fabric

Excuse the white bra and the equally white legs...
