1321  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: My First Quilt W.I.P. on: April 06, 2008 10:46:29 AM
Heh, well the top might be finished sooner than I thought if I keep staying up into the wee hours of the morning sewing!  Thank goodness the sewing machine doesn't keep the husband/baby awake!

The funny thing is, I now keep graph paper and colored pencils.  Some of the things I've drawn I've been told may be too complicated, but I figure I'll try 'em as potholders first.  (They're some odd-angle triangles.  Maybe I'll upload the page I drew....)

Darn it, it ate my first attempt to post.  *Sigh*

Okay, so I'm really new to this.  As in, before I started this I hadn't even threaded a sewing machine in probably 13 years.

I was watching public television last fall, not something I usually do, but I don't have cable, so there you go.  Anyhow, there was a quilting show on, not sure which one.  They were showing this one quilt block, and how versatile it was.  You could make zillions of quilts with this one block.  It really intrigued me, and I thought "I could probably do that!"  So I asked for a sewing machine and quilting stuff for Christmas.

I have an aunt who quilts, and she was very happy to help me get started.

It's funny, because I have no hobbies.  I get all wrapped up in an idea, and then I find out I'm not naturally talented at it, and then I quit.

So far, though I'm no where near a perfectionist (obviously) I'm hooked.  I was up until 1:30 this morning working on this.  And I have a 10 month old daughter, so that's pretty late for this lady!

Anyhow, like I said, I'm not a perfectionist, but I'm getting better with every stitch.  Tell me what you think!

(Hmmm, apparently I can't post pictures, so I hope y'all are okay with URLs instead!)

Here is an updated picture now that I've got more blocks done.  This is a sample of my original idea for the way I wanted to lay them out.  Let me know what you think.

The inside corners (around the light accent block) aren't lining up perfectly, but they're getting better.  Once I pressed the blocks flat they actually looked better than I was expecting!  I'm getting kind of proud of myself!  I might be able to gift this to my MIL after all!
