1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Let the Wild Rumpus Start! Max's wolf suit hoodie on: October 15, 2009 05:25:27 PM
Where the Wild Things are has been one of my favorite books since I was a little one.  I'm now a children's librarian, and I read it at least once a week in preschool storytimes.  I've been wanting a wolf suit for awhile, and the movie seemed like the right time to break out a cuddly, wolf suit hoodie.

Bashful wolf.

Gnashing my terrible teeth and showing my terrible claws.

This horrible in-mirror picture shows the removable claws, so that I can actually do things with my fingers while wearing the hoodie.

I'm really happy with how it turned out, though the claws took a couple of tries.  I am going to wear it to the library tomorrow and, of course, when I go see the movie.

2  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Breaking Dawn Bookmark supplies! on: August 05, 2008 08:19:04 PM
I work at a library, and this weekend we had a party for the release of Stephanie Meyer's newest book.  Being one of the crafty types at the library, I took on the craft for the evening.  We did a fairly simple bookmark craft, as well as some duct tape roses.  For the bookmarks, i made some simple stamps from fun foam.  I also found the official "twilight font" and printed out some words important to the series on cardstock.  Then, i cut all the letters out with an exacto knife.  Remind me to never do that again.  So annoying.  But, the kids seemed to like it, and the party was a success!

Duct tape rose!  I really like making these, we "debuted" them as a library craft for mother's day.

The stamps with a sample.

The stencils.
3  COOKING / Dessert / Breaking Dawn cake and cupcakes on: August 05, 2008 08:12:20 PM
I work at a library, and this weekend we had a release party for the new Stephanie Meyer book, Breaking Dawn.  I decided i wanted to make themed cupcakes and a cake with the book cover on it.  The cake turned out... not so great. It tasted good, at least, but it wasn't as nice as i wanted it to be, but I guess it wasn't horrible for my first real cake decorating extravaganza.  Though, I think i am going to learn about fondant next time i decide to do this.

I am fairly proud of the two chess pieces, myself, but the scale of the chess board is wonky, and filling in the white squares proved too difficult.  For reference, the book cover:

And now on to the cupcakes!  I wanted some vampiric cupcakes, so i googled about to get ideas.  Mine are a version based heavily off of these: http://bakingbites.com/2007/10/vampire-cupcakes/  but made from a box mix.

These were very popular.  But, of course I had to represent Team Jacob, so I made werewolf cupcakes as well.

I think these tasted better, but there were a lot left over.  However, the library staff made short work of them on Monday!  By this afternoon they were all gone.  And of course, the awesome cupcake courier I finally had an excuse to order came in yesterday, two days late.
4  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Chocolate Chip Wheat Hello Kitty Waffles on: August 05, 2008 08:00:41 PM
I got the hello kitty waffle iron last year for Christmas from an ex.  So far, i've only used it twice, but both times for the same thing!  Chocolate Chip Waffles!  I think these would be great for a kid's birthday or a tea party or something.  But they are also super dippable, which makes them more fun to eat than normal waffles.  Yum!

5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Bleach Discharge Octopus Tee on: July 06, 2008 10:34:50 PM
So, I made this tee shirt for my friend to wear to an MSI concert a few weeks ago.  It was a rushed midnight crafting session, making my own outfit and his tee shirt the night before because I had to work the next day.

I just used freezer paper and a little spray bottle of bleach solution.  I was super happy with how it turned out.  On the bottom corner, i did a little twist before spraying it, and it turned out looking like the Octopus was spraying ink.  some of the darker coloration of the bleach spots are from sweat (we had just walked to the train station).  I have a request for one of these for my boyfriend, as well.  I love bleach discharge, it is so easy!

If I get pictures of my own outfit, i'll post them up as well.  It ended up being a tee shirt dress with bleach discharge and a little skirt cobbled together from some pj's I was going to give away.

Oh, and the concert was super fun, even if it taught me that I am getting too old to handle the pit.  My knees were killing me from jumping around and dancing and i ended up with gum in my hair.  Boo.
