1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / HELP cut off too much fabric on a recon... on: March 27, 2010 02:48:47 PM
Sad Angry Sad  So i am fuming. I had this great pair of workout pants for like 8 years, black loose sweats, but over the long years of their employ, they have begun to sag and get sloppy looking. Now in the past 6 months I have done a few projects (not that I have posted them, I haven't been online much) these were pretty much unplanned and thrown together and turned out AMAZING (1. a hand stitched lion costume out of a 1 euro fleece blanket and 2. Two aprons from leftover fabric from my mom). I figured i was on a winning streak and decided to let the creative juices flow so i went out on a limb and decided to try something that SEEMED simple in concept.

Now I am trying to ressurect these pants into something like this

So I start measuring and marking the pants down on the outside side and pin with straight pins ( i didnt have any safety's) and try the leg on, PERFECT! Cut and move on. (also i didnt cut all the way down, i wanted the flare pronounced so i just stopped the cutting at an angle where i would want to keep the existing seam.)

Next I transferred the same measurements and pin again (stupidly using pins that have much smaller and round instead of flat heads) on the other leg, cut, try on the leg and OMFG way too tight. Measure again on botched leg and find they are about 1 cm too tight and i have no seam allowance.

On the verge of tears ( i had graph paper and thought i was doing so well) i pitch a mini fit and wrack my brain for a solution, but none come to mind. I dont want to trim the perfect leg and risk botching that too, just so i can stitch a long patch all the way down the outside seam of both legs, Unless it is my only option. I worry that a contrasting color would look too busy with the colored skirt which i am making out of an old tanktop, and i dont have much fabric from it left.

What would you do?  Huh

Twine, that is adorable and hilarious! I love that you're making the best of the situation!

Sooo... watcha gonna wear? Huh huh huh? Do you have wedding day attire picked out?  Grin

well yesterday I went to David's Bridal, and got me a 99 dollar dress. It normaly would have been like 800 dollars, but the style was discontinued, so they put the last one on the sale rack, and voila!

I also bought a cute little tiara and shoes!

I guess I will wear it to both the courthouse wedding AND the traditional one later. I cant afford two dresses.

Ack! I got to talk to him today, he is super excited. it was adorable. <3

I'm getting married on April 21st. I have a promise ring, but chris is in the army, and is in germany right now, so we had to plan out when we'll be engaged and married as the army kind of butts in on peoples unmentioned intentions. So he's going to "officially" propose on the 19th and then my promise ring will become my engagement ring, we'll do the courthouse thing, get married real fast by one of our friends, and then later this summer, when we have time and money for planning, we will have the big traditional ceremony and he'll get me a real wedding band.

stupid army. Oh well, either way I am so excited! Its less than a month away!

so because i dont have a picture of us together (we're always too busy gocarting or causing mischeif to take pictures together) so here is me and him. MS paint style.

ok so that was weird. lol. But i love everyone's pictures! You're so lucky you were able to do things the right way!
