22  Sweater Guards... in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by jMisSister on: August 08, 2008 02:01:44 PM
I just finished these little gems for my swap partner and since she has recieved them, I thought I'd share.

First, I have to say that I had no clue what a sweater guard was prior to my swap.  I learned that it was to hold a sweater in place when worn loose on the shoulders.  Awesome, right?  Well, I looked them up online and figured out how to make some for her!

I used shrinky dinks for the decorative part (sparrows and sugar skulls), alligator clips for the, well...clips   Roll Eyes , and some chain that was able to be cropped.  The chain is 7 inches long because that's what most of the ones I saw had for length.

I glued the clips to the backs of the "dinks" and used a basic jump ring to attach the chain to the clip.  Super easy...

Sugar Skulls (my favorite)

Sparrows (their color is a lot brighter in person...still trying to figure out my new camera)

23  My 1st ever sewing project!!!! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by jMisSister on: August 07, 2008 11:01:15 AM
I made a really cute apron for my swap partner and since she recieved her package I can share it with everyone!
Mind you, I have never sewn a thing in my life so I was a little nervous about my skill level.  Luckily, my sister is awesome at sewing so she came to help but I did 98% of it on my own!!  I have to say that I am pretty impressed with how it came out.  The only thing I would have fixed is the distance of the pockets from the waist.

a demonstration of the far away pockets!!!

25  S'Mores Pie.... in Dessert by jMisSister on: July 21, 2008 06:16:34 AM
I have to thank liltea for inspiring me to make this pie  https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=258189.0

The pie was cheap and easy, for the most part.  I used the pre-made individual sized graham cracker pie crusts, Jell-O chocolate instant pie filling, Fluff, and crushed graham cracker crumbs.
The only thing that was a pain was the Fluff...gosh, that stuff is annoying to work with!  I tried to put it in a baggie and pipe it out like frosting...dumb idea because it's too sticky.  Then, I tried to just spoon it out...same problem.  I got enough out to make 3 little pies but that was pushing it.  Anyone have any luck woking with Fluff?

Here's some pics...

And my son, Aidan, enjoying his little pie!

26  Cupcake Recipe Holder...or whatever...:) in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by jMisSister on: July 10, 2008 03:23:23 PM
I am on a bit of a cupcake binge right now...not eating them, just admiring & baking...so while I was painting some other flower pots I was inspired to make a cupcake to display!

I used a 6 inch flower pot, a saucer (can't recall what size but it fits perfectly on top of the pot), and a wooden ball...that's it!  I think it came out pretty darn cute.   Grin

My husband said it looks like hot chocolate with whipped cream on top and my son said it looks like an ice cream cone.  I am going to use it to store recipes.

27  Pretty flower pots... in Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Completed Projects by jMisSister on: July 10, 2008 03:09:46 PM
I really needed some flower pots for the front of my house so I painted these.  My house is pale yellow with barn red shutters so I thought the barn red and gold pots would compliment it nicely.  They will have flowers...eventually!   Grin

Thanks for looking!!

28  Corn on the Cob cupcakes! in Dessert by jMisSister on: July 08, 2008 05:37:03 AM
I was browsing through a magazine and saw these cupcakes so I figured I'd give it a go.  However, I had some ideas of my own that I used instead.
The original recipe called for store bought cupcakes but that's lame so I made my own.  I just used regular boxed white cake mix and added a good amount of yellow food color so that the cake was a nice shade of "corn yellow".   Grin  I also used yellow muffin papers.
As for the top, I frosted the cakes with white frosting and then added jelly beans in varied shades of yellow.  The "butter" was made from microwaved Starburst.  I have to say that, upon their first look, a ton of people thought the "butter" was real and were sort of grossed out.
The final addition was to add the corn cob holders.  I only have one in in the pictures because the carry case was too small to add them all.  I did add them later.
The only thing that I was upset about was the fact that frosting and 90 degree temperatures don't mix well so all the jelly beans started to slide off eventually.

29  Pin-up Plaques in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by jMisSister on: July 08, 2008 05:23:13 AM
I took two pages from an old Gil Elvgren calendar and cropped the pictures to fit the plaques.  I painted the plaques and then glued the pin-ups on and then Mod-Podged them so they have that nice glossy sheen over them.
When they were dry I also glazed them for added gloss...I like shiny things!!   Cheesy
Lastly, I nailed a little ribbon loop for hanging and...voil!!  Totally basic but I like them.  They now reside in my kitchen!

30  Fun Flower Pots... in Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Completed Projects by jMisSister on: July 08, 2008 05:05:32 AM
I have had a black flower pot holder for the longest time but never got the pots to put in it.  Now that I am on summer vacation (I'm a teacher) I got off my butt and got some plain terra cotta pots to decorate for the holder.

I just painted them (pink and green) and then used markers made especially for terra cotta to put little polka dots all around the top rim.  I think they came out really nicely!  Ohh...I also glazed them so they would withstand the elements!
