11  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Painting on fabric? on: August 28, 2008 03:46:18 AM
Hi all,

Not sure where this fits. It's sort of sewing / art . . so here it is.

My boyfriend loves all breeds of cat, especially African Wildcats, and I'd like to surprise him with a dress (For me to wear, not him!) on that theme.

My idea is to make up the dress first then have an artist friend paint the cat on it.

Ideally I wanted the dress to be silk, but I am worried that most silk painting seems to be done with gutta. I don't really want this look. I want it to be more subtle, like a watercolour.  Is this possible, or will it bleed too much.  I don't think I'll mind a little bleeding.

Also, as I will have done all the work on the dress first, if mistakes are made in the painting, will I have to make a whole new dress, or are there any top tips to correct them?

Thanks in advance!

13  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Tips on photographing jewellery? on: August 09, 2008 02:26:38 PM
Hi guys,

I have a backlog of beaded jewellery and was thinking of lidting it on Etsy just to get a feel for how it works, what sells etc.

Any tips on the photography? What backdrops work best?

Thanks so much!
14  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Distresses denim skirt with contrast stitching on: July 06, 2008 11:21:35 AM

I put this together over the course of a week of evenings, from an oddment of denim I bought for 2. I based it on a jeans skirt I already had, but didn't think I could cope with a real fly fastening yet so this has a mock fly and actually fastens with a zip at the side.

I really wish I had put some darts at the back, as you can see the waist band gapes a little, but as I'm only to wear it with a top which comes down belowthe top.

Any other suggestions?  It's kinda twisted by design but then so am I!

15  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Eco-Friendly Crafts to do with Kids on: July 06, 2008 02:55:52 AM
Hi all,

A group of us are going to camp for a weekend soon and we are each going to make some contribution to the group. I have offered to sit and do crafts with the children. The ideas I've had so far are corn dollies, bunting to decorate the tents, and bird houses made from milk cartons as here:http://familyfun.go.com/arts-and-crafts/season/feature/famf87project/famf87project06.html

Ideally the projects should:
-Not require too much equipment
-be eco-friendly as we all share that ethic
-contriute in some way to the party we are going to have on the last night

Any ideas would be very gratefully received!
16  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Discussion and Questions / Chihuahua's - A Little Help Please? on: July 06, 2008 02:45:29 AM
Hi guys,

I am trying to make a chihuahua from this pattern, but by step 10 where you add in the eye no matter which way I twist the thread the colour distribution looks nothing like the picture.

Thanks in advance!
17  HOME SWEET HOME / Pet-Related Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Gifts for Greyhound- loving friend on: June 25, 2008 03:43:25 PM
Hi all!

So I wanna get some ideas for gifts for my greyhound-loving friend who takes care of my rabbits while I am away. I can knit and sew or would have a go at other crafts at a basic level!

Thanks in advance!
18  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / Mermaid's Necklace on: June 25, 2008 11:49:23 AM
Hey you talented, talented people!

Been lurking on here for weeks and finally decided to get your opinion on one of my creations. I am Piscean and love anything marine themed so wanted to design a necklace fit for a mermaid! The beads are either pearls or marine coloured, woven around a crocheted sterling silver wire.

Be brutal please - I really wanna learn!

19  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / How much fabric for a tutu? on: June 16, 2008 10:29:26 AM
Hey all,

I'm going to Glastonbury Festival  in a couple of weeks and thought I'd make a tutu and use up a load of remnants. I think I'll nees to make a basic net one first though.

Any ideas how much net I should get, and although I could wing it, are there any good tutes about?

Thanks in advance guys
