What a great way to represent your goals! It's so tangible.  I could see doing something similar in my elementary classroom, because I know my students don't eat all their veggies.  (I don't either . . )
22  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: Christmas 2008 on: January 10, 2009 05:05:36 PM
This year was our first "handmade Christmas," where my husband and I really tried to make most of the gifts for our two girls.  I crocheted, stenciled, and sewed, and he built models for them.

It was a lot of work, and I'm not so sure we saved any money!  But for the first time in a long time, I really felt good about the gifts I gave.  I didn't feel like I wasted anything--not my money or my time.  The girls loved their sewn items (lap top covers with zippered charger pouches) and their stenciled T-shirts.  My husband loves his crocheted afghan.  My MIL loves his afghan so much, she has asked me to make one for her!  That was the best moment, because she usually turns her nose up at my handmade items.

And it's over and I am glad, because I have accumulated a long list of things to crochet--for myself!

Have you tried searching on Ebay?  You might be able to find an image of the cover at the very least.
25  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: easy fingerless glove pattern? on: November 24, 2008 01:46:00 PM
Do you mean something like these? https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=209721.0

I made a pair from this pattern in one night, using thick alpaca wool and I loved them so much I actually slept in them!  They are super easy and fast to make.  Now I just want an easy pattern for gloves, because it's turned too cold to wear my wristlets!

Hmmm, it *kinda* looks like the slant stitch, which you can see here:
27  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Discussion and Questions / Re: Any tips for making this wedding cake?(pic) on: November 11, 2008 04:35:18 PM
I see pillars like that in various craft stores (Michaels, AC Moore).  They seem pretty easy to find.

Have fun making the cake!  What a great challenge!!

I bookmarked this tutorial a long time ago, and I finally decided to make some today on my holiday!  I made two to start, but I will definitely make more.
This is the first one I made, to hold the power charger for my work laptop.

This is such a lovely, simple tutorial.  Thanks, heartofmary!!

29  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Re: some sweet junk thats beginning to pile up including beauty and the beast clock, with pics!!! on: November 10, 2008 04:08:11 PM
Tee hee, no my name is not Adele J.  ;-)

I also purchased a clock similar to the one you have--it was a gift for my step daughter when she was about 7 or 8, and really wanted a Beauty and the Beast clock.  (It makes hideous fake chiming sounds on the quarter hour, but fortunately you can turn that feature off.)  Maybe gussy up the bottom with ribbon or fabric?  (To hide the plastic-ness of it all?). Do some glass etching on the glass part? (That would be cool with some neat stencils.)

Your cherub arrangement is sweet, marycatherine.  I'm sure it looks beautiful at your brother's gravesite.

I finished the afghan for DH last night.  It is my first adult-sized afghan, and my first granny square afghan, and my first time working with alpaca fibers.  I love it! I'm happy it's not going far away--just across the driveway, to my husband's office above the garage. So I will be able to visit it often.  Smiley

I had not planned on finishing the afghan last night, but it was a significant day. Yesterday was the one year anniversary of our move from the West Coast to our house in rural New England. Our first night in the new house everything felt so strange and I hoped we'd made the right decision.  Now, a year later, our home is so cozy and wonderful.  And full of all sorts of crocheted projects I've had time to work on, now that I'm not living a rat race in the big city!
