1  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Vespertine Halloween! Bjrk Swan Dress on: October 31, 2009 12:26:15 PM
I know this has been done before, but here's my Bjrk swan dress!

It took about 25 yards of tulle sewed to a elastic-banded thrift store skirt to make the bottom and sash part. The swan head I made out of some scrap white fabric... hot-glued a whole bunch of feathers on and voila!

I'm so excited to wear this out tonight...  Grin Happy Halloweeeeeeeen!

3  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Tips for Participating in Craft Fairs / crafting band merch and displays. on: February 04, 2009 06:08:50 PM
i couldn't figure out where this should go, so i guess it goes here!

i thought i'd share pics of my band's merch display i made... any other band kids out there with crafty inclinations making cool stuff for their merch tables? there's a lot of the mass-produced t-shirts and buttons out there and i decided early on i wanted to hand make as much as i possibly could... the buttons are made from recycled magazines and pressed by me, the cds are silk-screened and wound in twine individually... the inserts are printed zine-style and bound by sewing. i also made the patches.

i found this suitcase at a thrift store and strung a piece of twine along the inside cover to make a sort of clothesline. i found tiny clothespins at wal-mart to hold up headbands, stickers and patches. the other stuff isn't band merch per say, but it does help pay for gas! Smiley

this is a tin box i found at a garage sale. i color-copied an illustration from a vintage children's book i had laying around and hand-wrote the little sign taped to the inside. it's the best way i've found to display and store buttons... when i'm ready to pack up, i just shut the box!

so far i'm pretty happy with the suitcase. it fits a fair amount of cds and the other stuff i carry around with me. it gets shuffled around some while in transit, but nothing too terrible. also, the suitcase is an awesome place to put all those stickers i end up trading at shows...

i'm still working on the "perfect" set up... i really want to make a creative lighting arrangement that's portable for dark venues. i'm going to drag some christmas lights with me to a show we're playing in chicago on saturday so we'll see how that works!

thanks for lookin'!

5  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / feathery headbands: on: February 04, 2009 05:12:44 PM
i've been making these all winter. i looooove them! i think i might be stuck in the whole feather trend for a really long time. Grin

they're so easy to make too... just a felt base around whatever headband you want. i use my hot glue gun and then just start layering.

6  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / grungy plaid tunic recon! on: February 04, 2009 03:44:18 PM
it's been a looooong time since i've posted!!

i know these plaid tunics have been way overdone, but i couldn't help myself. i just suddenly decided i needed one and my husband just happened to not want this vintage shirt anymore. i went at it with the scissors and sewing machine and... ta-da!

it's so comfy and i really like the lines of it. if i can convince him to give up another one of his old shirts, i'm totally making another one.  Grin
7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / owly outfit on: January 01, 2008 06:42:33 PM
i really, really wish i would have thought to post "before" pics of this stuff. alas, i was in too big of a hurry. i made this outfit to wear to a christmas party... the skirt is made from a maternity jumper i had (i had twins, so it was like a tent - plenty of fabric) with the owl applique (my own design) made from vintage felt, scraps, beads i rescued from a broken necklace and embroidery floss my friend destashed upon me. the shirt was a colored undershirt that belonged to my husband. i just put it on inside out, sketched out a pattern while i was still wearing it and then took it off and cut it out. i didn't even hem the neck or sleeves since it had such a cute rolled look to it when i gently pulled the knit apart. all in all, i'm pretty happy with the the whole thing.

hope everyone's new year's was safe and fuuuuun!!! Smiley
8  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / mousies! on: December 08, 2007 12:46:08 PM
i started to make these for my best friend's little boy and my own boys got a hold of them so looks like i'm going to have to make a whole mousey army. Cheesy

i used this amazingly simple pattern from sewing stars and made a couple modifications (beads for eyes, etc.) and i'm pretty happy with them so far! i like the little felt scarves too.

anyway, these were super quick. they'd make great last minute gifts... i'm going to try to make a mama/papa/baby mouse family next.
9  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / owl-y jordy bags. on: December 08, 2007 12:26:30 PM
i made these as presents for my two best friends... i used the owl pattern from moonstitches for the appliques and the ever-fantasic jordy bag tute.

thanks for looking. <3
