1  Egg before Owl Owl before Egg in Completed Projects by SunflowerSmiles on: March 20, 2016 06:43:34 PM
It's been a full two years since I've posted anything and I can say probably that long since I've done any real "sit down and craft something". I've sure missed Craftster and I check out what ya'll are making frequently but being active here? It's been a long time. Well. I thought I would jump in again and get my craft on.
I'm a huge collector of craft magazines and one of my favorites is Cloth Paper Scissors. This project was from May/June issue of 2013, one of my most favorite issues with a ton of cute stuff to make. Over the last couple of days, I pulled out my paint and paint brushes. Bought a new MOD PODGE since my old one was a dried up glob. Bought all of the wooden eggs at Hobby Lobby cause I'm a hoarder. Yup. I'm that person. Like the extreme couponers who buy every last can of tomato soup cause it's on sale and you just wanted grilled cheese and tomato soup. And someone cleared the shelf. Drives me nuts.
It was me.
I bought all the wooden eggs.
Right before Easter.
I'm not sorry.
Well I am kind a.
OH GEEZ!  I forgot! I was here to post my project...sheesh. My distracted brain.

I painted the wooden egg with the base color then mod podged tissue paper all over for texture. Dry brushed two different colors over the tissue paper. Used pencil to draw in the face then painted, outlined with micro pen. Mod Podged feathers and the wings and now I have myself a cute little spring owl to brighten up my window sill. For sure I have little to no experience with drawing or painting something like this other than the doll faces I did years ago. This was something new for me and I really enjoyed the process!  I missed spending hours crafting and creating. Anyhoo, I hope you like him. I'm going to be making some smaller ones so hopefully my technique will get better and the eyes won't be so wonky and my son so lovingly pointed out. "Go away kid!"  Grin

2  Miss Greenjeans in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by SunflowerSmiles on: March 07, 2014 02:11:48 PM
I was completely inspired but the new Stuffed mag this spring and decided to make myself a little up-cycled jean doll. I have a ton of old jeans that were once my husbands and I just can't give them to the second hand until I at least try to renew reuse recycle. This was one of the projects with a pair of his jeans. I drew up the pattern on freezer paper and just went for it. One of the stuffies in the Stuffed magazine was my inspiration. She kinda just morphed as I changed her multiple times in the process. I didn't buy anything but used what I had. I like her. I think she's cute.

Looks a little tellatubbyish from my memory banks when my son was little and makes me shiver just a bit, but I like her!

3  WindCharm in Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Completed Projects by SunflowerSmiles on: July 22, 2013 04:19:57 PM
I purchased a pile of sparkly baubles a couple weeks ago with the intention of making some sparkly things for my garden. Procrastination is such an evil thing but I enjoyed looking at the pile-O-sparkle on my craft table when the sun hit it.

Anyway! I wanted to make a twirlywhirl/windcharm for my yard like I've seen around Pinterest but couldn't find proper wire. I thought of using a coat hanger, which is what I'll use next time but I found some wire at Michael's that would did the trick.
I made this!

I tried to get a picture of it in the sun but it didn't work but it's super sparkly and I made it to twirl.
I used the wire I found at Michael's
thin wire that I found in the floral department
all my sparkly beads that I found super cheap at Hobby Lobby
and some little bells I had in my stash.

I wrapped the beads around the wire.

It was a really easy project, didn't cost too much money (maybe $8 at the most) and it adds some pretties to my yard.
Hope you like!

4  reusable produce bag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by SunflowerSmiles on: July 01, 2013 12:42:55 PM
It's going to be a scorcher here today and for those of us who are not acclimated to this type of heat...uh,me..I'ma gonna melt.
I wanted to get a little crafting in early and I've been trying to go through my stash. My pile-o-stash. Anyhoo! been wanting to make reusable produce bags for some time now since I've been really trying to reduce my plastic use. This bag isn't a thing of beauty but it will do the trick and cut down on a ton! of plastic as I buy lots of produce. It's washable too!

I cut a 16 1/2" by 13" piece of tulle on the fold. (The 13" is on the fold) I sewed up one side twice with a smaller stitch on the sewing machine then I zig zagged it. If I knew how to work my serger I would have used that. I just wanted to make sure I sewed it several times so it's good and strong. I added the inch binding to the top after I sewed up one side and tucked in the cord I found from and old sleeping bag in there to eliminate threading it through. Then I sewed up the other side the same as the first which made it a little bag.
It's really easy and fast and eliminates lots of plastic. It was super cheap too! Any questions please let me know and I hope ya'll make some. I'll be making a several more of these to give to family and friends too!
Now...off to the couch with a Popsicle and a movie.

5  My little Mermaid... in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by SunflowerSmiles on: June 11, 2013 09:22:12 AM
I was in a swap recently and my partner has some great ideas for the type of poppet she wanted. One of her ideas was a mermaid. I've always wanted to make one but was never sure about how to make the tail. I thought I would give it a shot and this is what I came up with.

I just couldn't pass up trying to make a tail with that fabric. It looked like scales to me. And for her hair I found the little bubbles in the party department and thought it looked a bit like the seaweed with the little bulbs on them you find in the ocean. She even had her own offering of a big ol pearl for her new friend.

I just took a walk up to the mail box what did I find? A little forest spirit! Such a pretty little thing but she was a little grumpy from being in a box and travel but she let me take a few pictures. It's really overcast today but I couldn't wait to show her off. I'll add a few more tomorrow with the sun out so you can see her sparkle. Wink

Thank you Averyg for organizing another great swap of poppets! AND, for being my partner. I can't wait until you get your he/she/it.  Grin Grin Grin Cool

(holy smokes! that picture is ginormous!!)

7  Re: Put a Bird On It! Swap - Send out Friday July 27th in The Swap Gallery by SunflowerSmiles on: August 01, 2012 06:22:36 PM
I'm going to go ahead and post pictures for my partner as she said she had problems with her camera.
I took a chance in making these as I'm not sure my partner would like it but I found the idea in a magazine with these little birdies on a quilt. I thought I would try to make a few try framing them.

She said she would like a mug rug so I made her two. I've never made mug rugs. These are really fun to do!

And lastly, my first embroidery project. She wanted something with one of the Hawaiian birds on it. The embroidered bird is a Hawaiian Red-Crested Cardinal. Learned a lot on this little project...after the fourth try. LOL! try something bigger next time!

And the necklace. There's a little sparrow in the frame. I used the new mod podge dimensional magic on it. That stuff is cool!
This was a fun swap to craft for!

I received from Gr33nT3a today and HOLY MOSES!!  This girl has some mad artistic skill and made me some incredible goodies that I will forever treasure! Wanna see? This will be a ton of pictures so I'll be putting a few in Thumbnails as to not overwhelm some with uploading.
First the box..for reals. (click on the picture to make it bigger)

This was on the top...sooo cool.  Check the whole box out!

the box was covered in birds!
Yeah..I was totally excited to rip into the box but I didn't want to ruin my peacock!! I was gentle...sort of.  Grin  NEXT!  Everything wrapped up...

I sooo ripped into that...well kind of..she had it wrapped up tight! It was coming across the big blue. Everything was protected well.  Now some bigger pictures!!!
Check this out...

a Blue Jay and can I say...AWESOME! this girl can seriously draw! I can barely do stick figures. I very much appreciate those who can make something come to life on paper. Speaking of coming to life...

A Spotted "Rufous-sided" Towhee. One of my favorites painted on a pillow. Looks like it can fly right off of there! I adore this and I am in AWE..........and it's mine.  Grin  NEXT!
This is by far...so cool. I collect little bird figurines and check this out...
And Egg Diorama. I cannot tell you how cool this is and I will treasure it always. I suck at pictures so I hope you can see how awesome this is...

and the back side..

That's a REAL egg folks, that's a little robin in there!...I can't imagine the time and patience it must have taken to do this. It's in a place where I can see it all the time. Smiley
And last but certainly not least are some feather earrings...very pretty

and some little extras...Hawaiian candy!

I am soooo happy!  These are things I will treasure always...thank you thank you thank you Gr33nt3a.   Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley

Sorry Sharalee your not feeling well.. Undecided  Bummer when it's hot.  I hope you don't mind if I post pictures? I'm just really proud of what I did and would like to share it with my poppety friends.  Grin
Here's little Miss Fairy Princess Poppet...

I made wings for her and gave her fingers and toes. She doesn't have a tail since I can't turn them for the life of me. I gave her pointy ears as well. Her hair is in a little ponytail on the top of her head..looks a little odd in the picture but the shiny crystals thingy's are wrapped around it.
I sent a few friends along with...A mini poppet. She's under half the size as the regular poppet.

and a Cupcake doll!

(sorry those pictures look so washed out...not sure what happened there.. Undecided)
