21  J&T Challenge 2: Beach Wedding bib necklace in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by digital misfit on: May 17, 2010 08:10:17 PM
ok...I will go first.
Let me preface this by saying I do NOT make jewelry.  My clumsy fingers are not suited to tiny beads and headpins.
That said, I have been in love with rolled rose bib necklaces since I first set eyes on them.  When I saw this challenge, I decided to try my hand at making one in a summery beach wedding theme.  I stabbed my fingers a few times, but I enjoyed making it.  I will probably make a simpler one for more regular wear.

I misplaced my roll of precut muslin strips, so the rolled roses are made from a 100% cotton white bedsheet, torn into strips & dyed with tea (regular black, and lemon dream which is a red rooibos and marigold flower blend).  I wanted it to have a beach sand color.  By some miracle, it dyed to the exact shade as the tulle I had on hand.
The flowers are accented with peridot stone chips and freshwater pearls (birthstones for June & August!), and the "chain" is a double strand of creamy glass pearls which just slips over the head.  The seashells are hand sculpted from polymer clay and painted in acrylics.

modeled by my lovely (if bald and armless) assistant, Lola, in a chocolate brown Nine West dress

Thanks AI and Panthermoon Smiley

My new Koh-i-noor Progressive Woodless colored pencils arrived today from the Czech Republic!  I LOVE THEM!  Gorgeous weight, and smooth color.  This does not mean I am any GOOD at shading or coloring, but at least I have good pencils to learn with now.

I read a tip about using a Qtip and baby oil to blend these pencils, so that is what I did with this set of cards.  The finished result looks a lot like watercolor in person.

Fat Buddha

The following set was made for a Column A + Column B swap (as seen in previous WIP pics)

Coffee Cup + Tree

Manly Man + Apron

Toilet Paper + Lotus Flower (no baby oil blending on this one)

and the now infamous Chicken + Hand Held Egg Beater
otherwise known as Rambo Chick

yay! I'm so in love with my donkey!

words one does not hear often enough  Tongue

Thank you, jcorn, for your kind comments.

Today, a few new mediums:

Deep Tea Diver

collage on acrylic & baking soda base with metallic gel pen accents

Serene Buddha

fine black marker and cheap colored pencils (waiting on my "grown-up" pencils to arrive)

Laughing Buddha

as above
on cardstock

I am starting to experiment with sketches.  I hate how much detail I lose when I paint with acrylics, and I am just all thumbs with watercolors, so I am giving colored pencils a whirl.

Here are 3 WIP atcs waiting to be colored

toilet paper lotus flower
bonsai coffee mug
Unitarian Universalist flaming chalice stained glass

28  Gothic Arches in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by digital misfit on: March 30, 2010 04:56:11 PM
An atc trade partner sent me a handful of gothic arch blanks to play with.

They are slightly wider, and about 2cm taller than an ATC.  The size isnt much different, but that extra bit allows me to use images that would otherwise not fit or be too crowded on an atc.  I likey!

Sister Steampunk
collage on arch with tissue, mixed papers, images, gold paint, ink, awesome nun wearing gas mask
