41  Mardi Gras Party! in Dessert by SciFunk on: June 25, 2009 01:57:20 PM
Yeah, okay, I know Mardi Gras was months and months ago, but I'm just now uploading the pictures to my computer.  Roll Eyes

This is sort of a follow-up to this post. If you want more details about the party and the recipe I used, it's all there.

Here is one of the two cakes, with buttons inside:

And here is a picture of all the stuff laid out:

You can also see all the crowns/hats I made in that one. From left to right: the king's crown is sitting on top of the male peasant hat, the merchant's kippa and money necklace, and the queen's crown on top of the female peasant's bonnet. You can also see bits of the chips, salsa, and homemade cookies that were out. :>

42  Delicious (and ridiculously chocolatey!) Lava Cake in Dessert by SciFunk on: May 05, 2009 11:29:57 PM
I did this crazy modified king cake thing for Mardi Gras where instead of one person getting a baby, we all got buttons that defined different roles for us for the evening (there were two peasants, a merchant, and a king and queen). Anyway, the point for this post is that I made a "test cake" to make sure the buttons would all stay where I expected and that everything worked out okay. It did! Sadly, I do not have a picture of the actual Mardi Gras cakes because they were finished at the very last second and we immediately ate them, but I do have my test cake. I actually think the test cake is cuter because the cake is the perfect shape to be a volcano. Grin The Mardi Gras one just had green, purple, and yellow sprinkles on it instead of red and orange.

Ignore that there blue sprinkle.. he's just a bit of water waiting to get washed away by the hot magma coursing toward him. Certainly not a sprinkle that somehow managed to get on my otherwise totally awesome cake.

I am a sucker for cake mix in a box, so I used this recipe to fancy it up a little. The chocolate "sauce" on top is just chocolate chips mixed with a bit of oil and melted. It was ridiculously moist and chocolately and yum.

43  New Resin Goodies :D in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by SciFunk on: April 02, 2009 12:38:26 PM
Here are some of my latest resin goodies. I have so many new ideas and not enough time to do all of them.. le sigh. I need a couple weeks to just do batches and batches of ideas.

Also: Holy crap yes that unicorn one does glow in the dark. One of my friends came over and stole the dinosaur glow in the dark one I made before I could even take a picture.

44  Strawberry/Sugar Cookie Tartlets in Dessert by SciFunk on: March 30, 2009 06:45:05 PM
This is adapted from a recipe clipping my aunt sent me. The original recipe said to use pre-made refrigerated cookie dough, but I decided to be difficult and make a batch of cookie dough from scratch. It was probably more delicious in the end, but I think the pre-made dough would have been easier to work with.

Basically, you use sugar cookie dough and press it into muffin pans to make little cups, which you then bake (in the muffin pan) for ten minutes or so. The filling is 8 oz. cream cheese, 1/4 cup sugar, 1/2 cup sour cream, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, and 1/4 teaspoon almond extract. Beat the cream cheese and sugar together, then add the rest of the ingredients and beat again. Divide the cream cheese mixture between all your cookie cups and top with fruit. Bake another ten minutes or so. I think I actually added the fruit after the baking was all done, so you can do it that way too.

They were extremely delicious and filling like no other. I could only eat one before I was all tarted out, so even though the recipe only makes about twelve, that should be plenty.

Aaaand of course, here are some pictures of the final product:

45  Re: Ongoing Wish Swap Round 42 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by SciFunk on: February 26, 2009 09:52:00 PM
Oy, it's taken me so long, but I have finished receiving from everyone, aaand taken pictures. Sorry for the blurry ones, I don't know what my camera was thinking.

First, everything from SilverWing:

OHMYGOD I love this stationery. She also sent address labels, but I left those off because, well, they have my address on them. Tongue

Aand the very stylish fabric and dice earrings.

Next, we have my goodies from ImSewSilly--she sent me a bunch of resin stuffs--a mold, charms, ribbon, and a bag to cut up.

And a closer picture of the charms--pretty much one for every "main" crafty thing, plus a totally awesome dragon.

Last but not least, we have RibbingBoutique's goodies, which came in three different packages.
OCTOPUS FABRIC! and a very stylish science-themed coaster tile thing.

The last package to arrive had handmade stuffs in it. The octopus picture holder was broken, but I can glue it back together and make it good as new. Smiley The octopus stationery is so freaking cute!

Whooo I received my first package (from freestyle).

There are three different fabrics, three patterns (including one for a book, which is super awesome and I'm so excited for doing it), and a (surprise!) science tote!

Thanks so much! I can't wait to get started on everything. Grin

47  Re: Ongoing Wish Swap Round 41 and 42 Discussion in New Swap Theme Ideas by SciFunk on: January 24, 2009 01:41:55 PM
Im Sew Silly seemed like she wanted some teaser pictures, so I took a few before popping the package in the mail today. A bit of time in photoshop, and voila!

I'm super excited to see what she thinks of her pendants. She couldn't find the original image she wanted, so she just gave me some ideas to go off of.. I can't wait!

48  Resinresinresinresinresin (Shiny new things with lots o' pictures) in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by SciFunk on: January 19, 2009 04:45:11 PM
It has been so long since I've posted resin goodies! I decided to take pictures of a whole bunch of my older ones, and I just mixed up a new batch that I can hopefully put up in a few days.

The cat, dragon, and unicorn are all hand-drawn (and then scanned in and printed out again) originals.

Sooooo.. which one's your favorite? Grin

50  Turtle Bread! in Recipes and Cooking Tips by SciFunk on: January 12, 2009 08:36:52 PM
I'm not so good at making bread yet, but I thought this was just too cute. I saw the picture on the front page of Allrecipes on New Year's Day, and knew I had to make it. Here's the recipe, if you'd like to give it a go yourself.

Isn't he frigging adorable?
