31  My newest soap *pic* in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by shout4joy on: February 07, 2009 07:39:15 AM
I just have to share. I made this for a swap on a (different) soaping board and I'm so pumped about how this soap turned out:

I tried a new (to me) method of swirling - and I will be using this technique again (as long as I have a second pair of hands - essential for this technique). The swirl is totally all the way through the bars, not just resting on top Smiley

Here is the house I received from mamarose22

she did a great job - and since my favorite color is blue...I have a blue house Smiley

I'd love to have a little cabin like that in the woods. How big/small is it?

here is a pic with a nickel on the front porch for scale (I didn't have a dragon handy).

34  My recent soaping pic in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by shout4joy on: November 12, 2008 08:14:47 PM
I've been soaping the last three weeks, trying to get ready for a craft show just after Thanksgiving - doing a soap and sundries booth with my sister. These are the batches I am contributing - well, the overcolored soap will not be going, that stuff is WAY TOO PINK even though it smells divine Smiley

I just had to share

Top Row: Lavender Lane, Fresh Laundry
Middle: Shea You Love Me (overcolored), Oats N Honey, Three Kings, Shea You Love Me (toned down somewhat)
Front: Orchard Breeze, Raspberry Patchouli

Thanks for looking Smiley

35  My TomTom (GPS) Purse/Case/whatever you call it! pics in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by shout4joy on: June 05, 2008 07:32:57 PM
My dh gave me a TomTom for my birthday Smiley Knowing that these little GPS units are hot items, dh told me to take it with me when I get out of the vehicle...so I looked at cases for them. BORING. I knew I had fabric scraps big enough to make one Smiley

I used a scrap of a printed denim for the outside and a microfiber towel for the inside. I did add a layer of batt (more scrap) and some fusible interfacing to keep the microfiber from stretching way out of shape.

It is about 4" X 4 1/2"...

and here is a shot showing the inside (not very exciting, I know!)

Thanks for looking Smiley

36  The Stars Sing - images in Quilting: Completed Projects by shout4joy on: April 23, 2008 02:28:25 PM
This quilt is based on a pattern by Judy Martin.

I've never made a quilt so big before - it took up my whole quilting frame! And it was a bear to finish piecing the top - it was SO big (and my sewing cabinet is NOT).

96" X 96"
cotton fabrics
cotton batt
machine quilted (by me!)

38  Tea Cup Back Pack VeRY iMaGe HeAvY in CHALLENGE 26 ENTRIES by shout4joy on: April 05, 2008 11:02:27 AM
This is my first challenge, please be kind!

Here is my Tea Cup Back Pack

I overbought at Dollar Tree, not knowing what materials would work out the best. I discarded the T-shirts (well, we will use them! just not in this challenge) and the Shiny Purses (they were 2/$1).

I used:
5 Tea Towels
1 Slouchy Bag Backpack
1 Cosmetic Bag
1 Three Ring Binder
1 package of Play Clay
1 package of stretchy Hair Bands
I used some thread and some Mod Podge from my own materials.

I chose to make a backpack...without a pattern. I just started cutting and sewing. I cut the Three Ring Binder (sorry about the typo on the picture) into strips and used them for ribs similar to boning...

I cut the cosmetic bag apart, used the body of the bag to give some "body" to the flap and used the zippers for pockets
inside pocket
hidden back pocket (wallet not included in challenge)

I made buttons out of the Play-Clay stuff by mixing colors and shaping them into buttons (it darkened as it dried). I thought it would be fun to make a teacup button to go with the tea cups on the tea towels.

I used the hairbands to make button loops on the front and the cell phone pocket

I used the sloppy backpack for fabric, drawstring and straps (I fancied up the boring, plain black shoulder straps with some of the tea towel fabric)  - the slippery black fabric is used for lining in the pockets

The interior is very roomy, with a section of the three ring binder providing some stiffness in the bottom. Here is an in-use shot with a thick novel, my stainless steel water bottle and a friend to keep me company, with room to spare!

Here are a couple of action shots with my niece who is visiting

she said the backpack is very comfortable

Thanks for looking!
