52  just a boring bag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by kategirl on: April 23, 2006 07:36:00 AM
here's a bag I made last summer out of some stuff I had laying around.  it's the perfect size to take in the car with me on car/van trips (I had two last summer) to fit a book, cd player, cd's, and some snacks.  it's very floppy, has a rectangular bottom, and a zipper straight across the top.  the handle runs all the way around the bottom to help support the floppyness of the bag.  it's lined with hibiscus flower fabric that we used as chair covers in our dorm last year (talk about recycling!) and there's an inside pocket.

53  very quick sweater vest in Knitting: Completed Projects by kategirl on: April 22, 2006 10:34:08 PM
knit with 2 strands of caron simply soft last weekend (very quick), loosly based on this bernat pattern.  it adds about 5 pounds on me and I don't really like it (the neckline ended up higher than I'd wanted) but it doesn't look too bad with a skirt as opposed to pants.

54  recovering headphones - TUTORIAL in Completed Projects by kategirl on: February 12, 2006 12:33:15 PM
I'm sure some of you are like my and still have the old behind the head headphones that were all the rage a few years ago.  and, like me, the pads are probably falling apart.  instead of buying new headphones, here's a super easy, super cheap way to fix them!

all you need is a needle, thread, and some craft felt.  your felt should be fairly soft, fairly porus, and not prone to pilling.  (the sound quality for me has been at least as good as through the original foam)  you probably want to match your felt and thread color unless you like the contrast stitching look.  they hold up fairly well - mine survived for almost a year of daily use (and sometimes dragging on the ground behind my backpack) and could have held up longer except that I wanted to do this tutorial.

Step 1 - take off the old foam pads.

Step 2 - cut out two circles of felt slightly larger than the earpieces (for my sony street style headphones, I cut them about 3" in diameter)

Step 3 - fold the thread in half and knot the end.  do a running stitch around the edges of one of the felt circles, pulling the thread through the knotted end.

Step 4 - place the circle behind the earpiece and tighten the thread slightly.  see how it's starting to "grab" the sides of the earpiece?

Step 5 - tighten the thread and knot it off.  cut and hide the thread so it doesn't stick out.  repeat steps 3-5 on the other side with the other circle.

Step 6 - yay, you're done!  admire your good-as-new headphones.

56  Re: Anthropologie-inspired capelet + Tutorial! in Knitting: Completed Projects by kategirl on: February 05, 2006 09:57:01 AM
I made one for a swap and now the package has arrived so I can post!  I used less than one skein of black simply soft, held two strands together.  the picture is really blah because I just left it on the floor to take the pic.

57  Re: Post Secret Swap Round II in The Swap Gallery by kategirl on: February 03, 2006 08:08:41 PM
I got two in the last couple days!  (sorry it took me a couple days to get them up, I've been really busy)  the first one is for december, and the second one didn't specify when it was for (though I'd assume January).

craftyzary sent me an awesome mini stationary set!  I told her I love vintage pin up girls, so it's pin up themed!

here's the case.  the girl's saying "Ooo, it's a Tiny Pinup stationary set".

here's the contents.  there's 10 envelopes, 20 sheets of paper, 10 heart stickers, and 5 wonderful little buttons!  it's all so great, I can't stop looking at it!  thank you so much, craftyzary.   Grin

60  Re: The Unconditional Swapper Swap in The Swap Gallery by kategirl on: January 06, 2006 12:40:51 PM
bijouxpuck (I think...  there was no note!) just sent me an awesome swap angel package!

there's two crochet ear warmer head band things, each with a beaded flower pin on them, two crocheted and beaded pins, and a bunch of yummy smelling vanilla tea lights!

she also sent me really cool hand drawn cards, which just happen to have some of my favorite ever quotes on them!

I love these two...  I think at least one of them is going up on my wall.

thank you so much!  it was a wonderful swap angel package to recieve!   Grin
