11  yet another scoodie in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by kategirl on: March 10, 2008 10:34:43 PM
I made this scoodie last fall after I saw a couple on here.  the furry fabric makes it so cozy, and the thick knit on the outside keeps me toasty.  best of all, it was made completely from 75% off remnants!

12  gold embroidered pillow in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by kategirl on: March 10, 2008 10:32:10 PM
I had a half full bag of polyfil and a bit of this fancy fabric left.  so of course I made a pillow!

I sewed two pieces together, squared off the corners, and stuffed.  I added a button on each side and sewed them together very tightly to add a little something.  it's about 16"x16".

here are two hats I made a while back, both to use up single balls of yarn I had.

(I like the maroon hat much better!)

14  old holey sweater to cute cardi in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by kategirl on: March 10, 2008 10:20:08 PM
this began as a long sleeve wool sweater, many years ago.  unfortunately, it developed some holes and the elbows got a little thin.

I hand washed the sweater with dish soap and some elbow grease to felt it a bit.  I then cut up the front, hemmed it, and added two hooks and eyes.  I also cut off the cuffs and sewed them back on to form 3/4 sleeves.

16  Re: Spring/Summer Wardrobe Sewalong in Clothing Sewalongs by kategirl on: February 10, 2008 12:33:25 PM
I'm planning on some new clothes, too!  I have lots of fabric waiting around to be used.

1 - Butterick 5031 - light tan cotton with a brown vine pattern
2 - Butterick 5030 - sheer green flowered cotton wrap dress with a dark blue poly tank dress underneath
3 - Burda Style Janina - dark gray (or maybe dark blue, or maybe both)
4 - McCall's 2094 - light blue cotton
5 - Burda Style Franzi (not picture shown) - black
6 - Burda Style Michelle (or maybe Sew U A-line Skirt) - pink/red raw silk (and maybe other fabrics)
7 - Sew U Button Up Shirt (or maybe McCall's 2094) - tan/pink fabric with stripes, slightly stretchy
8 - Burda Style Idit - coral eyelet knit (color wrong on picture)

17  Modern Quilted Travel Tote! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by kategirl on: February 03, 2008 12:04:49 PM
I needed a bag to use as my "personal item" for when I'm flying in a couple weeks.  I didn't have anything the right side, so I decided to make something.

it's about 12"x12"x4", large enough to hold quite a lot of stuff (including papers) but small enough to not be in the way.  it's made all from my stash.  the zipper with the other material was kind of my mini miracle - it was the only appropriate zipper I had but it didn't work color-wise until I found the perfectly matching cotton fabric I had gotten from someone else.  perfect!  I used it to form a pocket on each side of the bag.

the outside is quilted from some fairly thick gray fabric, poly batting, and an upholstery sample.  it turned out perfect - the bag holds its shape and can stand up on its own, but it's soft enough to fold up in case I need to stash it in my suitcase on the way home or something.  the strap is long, meant to be worn across the body like a messenger bag, but still short enough to sling it over just one shoulder if I need to.

the lining is the same cotton with a zippered pocket.

it's not perfect, but all in all I'm happy with it.  Smiley

19  A Starry Starry Baby Quilt in Quilting: Completed Projects by kategirl on: January 06, 2008 05:39:05 PM
my boyfriend's sister is having a baby soon so I decided I needed to make the baby-to-be a blankie!  I designed the top in excel, sandwiched it with cotton batting and a solid blue on the back, and randomly quilted it all over.  the quilting isn't great since I didn't have a walking foot (I really should get one of those), but it worked out well enough.  I did everything except the binding in about 24 hours last fall; the binding I did last night (shame on me for the procrastination!).  it was my first real quilt.

the shower was today and she really liked it!
