1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / cutest PJ pants - not hard to make? on: January 31, 2006 09:33:20 AM
hi, i am not the greatest at sewing, but i saw these CUTE PJ pants in anthropologie this weekend. and i thought they would not be too hard to make. even some cute vintage sheets could be made into these pants, with the trim and everything, they are adorable.

any ideas?

3  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / where can i find round flat discs for earrings? on: April 10, 2005 01:47:16 PM
i'm looking for flat round discs (maybe 1" or more in diameter) that are light enough, and thin enough to use for earrings. i'd consider wood (that i could paint) aluminum (or some other light metal) or even shell. has anyone seen these around or online? i'm desperately looking.

here's an illustration of what i'm looking for. any color would do, i'd paint it.

6  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Discussion and Questions / dye your own fabric prior to printing? on: November 24, 2004 05:00:50 PM
has anyone used procion dyes or some other fabric dye to dye white cotton shirts before printing on them? i want to try it but i wanted to try to get some tips first. i can't find nicely colored shirts in the colors i want. my full time job is as a color designer so i am so picky about color. even american apparel dissapoints me. my only recourse.....is to dye them up myself!

any advice would be so appreciated!!
7  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Screen Printing: Discussion and Questions / water based vs. plastisol on textiles on: October 06, 2004 07:11:29 AM
please forgive my question, i am a screen printing novice.

ok, water based or plastisol on textiles? and what is with heat setting? i know you can flash cure plastisol inks, but they are so thick and yucky. water based print onto fabcric thinner and nicer i've found (which is what i need), but do you printers iron for 3-5 mins on the other side for every shirt? is that to speed drying, or is it required to cure the ink so it can be washed? also, with water based, does it really destroy the photo emulsion if you are using the screen over and over? i won't really be reclaiming many screens since i will save them to print series of shirts, so i want the emulsion to set.

also....when you wash your screens, is the waste water toxic? or if i wash it in the yard is that ok? i don't want dead wildlife hanging out around my garage.
8  CLOTHING / Sewing Pattern Reviews / ever seen a pattern for a cute zip hoodie? on: October 02, 2004 09:08:22 PM
i am looking for a pattern for a zip hoodie, but not the long bunchy old man kind - a newer cut. can anyone direct me to one?

9  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / what supplies do i need to start? on: October 01, 2004 04:33:41 PM

i am new around here and this is such a great site for so much information. i have been stabbing blindly in the dark for so long!

anyway, i am going to take a sewing class soon (so i can learn how to use my new machine). i have been sewing by hand for far too long.  the class does not start until after the holidays, but i want to get a jump on stocking up on some supplies that i will need when i start sewing from patterns, and modifying some existing clothes i have. not just supplies for my machine - but supplies you all use in your everyday sewing/crafting lives.

so my question is, what is a list of some essential supplies that i will need? what is in your toolbox that you can't be without?

10  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Screen Printing: Discussion and Questions / printing with very thin ink on: October 01, 2004 07:35:05 AM
i am wondering if there is a way to print on fabric (like a t-shirt) but with making the ink very thin. are there special inks that are not so thick and heavy, or can you think the ink somehow? what might be a good brand for this? thanks for any advice. Smiley
