Cute! What is couching? Is it the same as duplicate stitching?
It's where you pin down a section of thick thread(yarn) with a thinner thread(sewing thread) in a whipstitch sort of way.

Beautiful colours!
sigh...wish I could knit
Nothing stopping you from collecting yarn...
Having buttloads of beautiful yarn could give you the incentive to learn!
It's Peaches and Cream, if anyone was wondering.

Not much, really. Just something I whipped up in an hour or so to put in the box I'm sending my friend for her birthday. I just love the yarn colors som much and the pattern is great, too. Most bookmark patterns I found were for teeny needles but these are on US7. The pattern is here if anyone wants it.

This took about two days, and I'm really proud of it. Thanks to ThreadOrYarn for suggesting couching! I've never done that before and it worked really well.

That cable looks so complicated! It's beautiful!
And congrats on all your firsts!

Ooh! I hit "this rocks"! I love that one big cable! How many stitches did that take up?

Cute! What size of needles did you use?
(And your cat is adorablle! He looks just like mine!)
29  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / How would I do this? **Slightly updated** on: July 11, 2008 06:44:26 PM
I'm knitting an iPod case for my friend's birthday and I'm putting a music note (eighth note) on it. I've already used satin stitch for the big round part, but that won't work for the stem part, because it's too fat looking. Also, duplicate stitch looks to broken up. Any suggestions?

Edited to add: Here's a picture for clarification.

(For those of you wondering, the paper slip is in there to prevent me from stitching the two opposing sides together. Again.

i do love how knitting is "punk" now! that amuses me to no end, even though it probably shouldn't. i love it, too, because it wildly expands the horizons of what we can make, in terms of available colours, patterns, and plain *ideas*. plus, it would be right unfair for a punk to look down on someone for being different, so we can all make different things, and be happy. it's... it's just awesome.

i feel like i should be singing that "boom-de-yada" song.
Looooooove the "boom-de-yada" song; I am so putting that on my iPod. I'm iPodding it. Can that be a new word, like googling turned into a word?
