81  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Collage pictures...best glue to use?? on: May 03, 2008 04:24:15 PM
So I have been collaging large pictures for several years, made my 2 largest and best ones when I was still in high school (about 12 years ago!).  I like to use interesting photos from magazines, primarily advertisements and pictures of some of my fave bands and actors/actresses.  When I made these 2 collages I used rubber cement to adhere the pictures to standard sized posterboard (the large kind you can buy 1 sheet at time for school projects) on the glossy side.  I chose rubber cement because the excess glue can be 'rolled' off and will not be sticky or rip the paper or posterboard.

Is there a better adhesive for collaging like this?  I am wanting something that is easy to remove like the rubber cement because I tend to over-paint the backs of the pictures because I don't want peeling corners and want them stuck down really good.
82  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / Would like to become an organizer soon...questions... on: April 28, 2008 09:50:07 AM
I would like to become an organizer soon, I have just completely my first swap and will be getting feedback soon and then one more to complete!

I have a couple questions though...

When I become an organizer, and get people signing up and I approve them, how do I go about putting feedback in their profiles to start and to end???

Before starting a swap, I would think I would have a co-organizer on 'stand-by' in case I get over 25 people...is there somewhere to go to post for a 'help wanted' for a co-?  I believe on the one I would like to start I have a couple people that expressed an interest in being a co- with me on it from the post I started in the Swap Ideas forum...but just in case neither of them can team up with me, I would like to know how to go about petitioning for a co-organizer so I am not caught with my pants down by having more than 25 people and no co- Smiley

Sorry if these questions have been asked, or if I should have posted elsewhere, please let me know or move me if this is the case!

preg_replace('/(.{49})/', '$1 ', '______________________________________________________________________')

A great idea was put out on the FOC board here:

https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=238595.0

The original poster suggested just a raffle throughout the site for FOC, then someone else came along and suggested a 'raffle swap'.

So there you go!  I thought this would be a really great and fun idea and would like to organize this swap once I have a couple swaps completed under my belt.

I figured it could work something like this...

People come in and sign up for the swap, what they are going to make is recorded by the organizer.  There is a timeframe set out for making the item and posting a picture of it.  After all items have been posted there will be 2 hats: one full of swapper's names and one full of the items made by these swappers (with the name of who made that item below it to avoid the creator 'winning' back their own creation!).  A name would be picked, then an item picked, and that person gets that item drawn!  An almost complete surprise...as the photos would be posted of all items for all to see, so you can look and dream and wish for all the ones you like...then see what shows up at your door Smiley  Serious concerns can be addressed in the swap questionaire (ie-Vegans receiving things made from wool and other animal-derivatives, wool/food/smoke/etc. allergies, etc.) so people don't end up with something they ABSOLUTELY cannot have around them/use, and if it happens, then the name and item both go back in the hat and are drawn again until a favorable match comes up.

This is just a rough idea of how it would go, tweaking can take place as needed.  I welcome your opinions and comments!
84  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / White Rose Bridal and Lavender Bridesmaids Bouquets IMG HEAVY on: April 07, 2008 07:10:03 AM
So I have been cleaning out stuff in my closets and preparing my office and closet in my spare room to get setup for crafts now that my partner's mother has moved out.  Found this lovely bridal bouquet along with 2 bridesmaid's bouquets for my 'would-be' wedding several years back.  Long story short, he ended up in jail, I couldn't hack it when I thought about being married to a 'criminal' (it was only a bench warrant for not showing up to court, but still...it's a RECORD now) and we broke up.  We had crossed paths a couple times after that, then a year or so ago my dad looked his name up on the internet for our local sheriff's dept and found he had a record as long as my arm now.  Good thing he and I did NOT take the plunge...I would have REALLY regretted it.  Anyways, at least these lovely bridal pieces came out of it Smiley  I have kept them for years, and actually forgot about them until I unearthed them a few weeks ago during a fabric quest.  I made myself and 2 bridesmaid's head pieces also, they have long been sold at the Medieval Faire as they were all flower head wreaths.  What to do with these bouquets now?  Memories attached to them, and they were for another wedding NOT to my current partner....so....I hope to find them a good home soon!  Enjoy!

85  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Suggest New Boards and New Features / Floral Board! For all items made with lovely flowers :) on: April 05, 2008 03:09:18 PM
I would like to propose a new board to Craftster...a floral board!

True, many floral items could be considered 'home decor', however, the items I make are far from it.  I make flower head wreaths, children's fairy wands, and bridal bouquets all from silk flowers.

There are SO many beautiful things that can be made from silk flowers, dried flowers, and REAL flowers.

Who else does floral crafts and would like to see a board where these can be posted and talked about?
86  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Custom flower head wreaths...PICS finally! IMG HEAVY on: April 04, 2008 09:30:03 AM
I have finished the 2 custom pieces I was working on.  The only pics I could get in a jiffy were taken with my cell phone.  Hope they are acceptable...the beauty of them is hard to capture, they came out a little dark Sad

88  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Would like to make a sewing machine & serger cover...tute anywhere?? on: April 03, 2008 06:50:56 AM
Been looking at my sorry plastic cover on my sewing machine, then someone mentioned making a sewing machine cover out of some fabric they had...then I thought 'Hey!  I need a sewing machine cover!'

I am not sure how to go about making one???  Kinda looks like I could make an oversized toaster cover, but I don't know where to get a pattern.

I would also like to make a cover for my new serger, but again, I don't know how to go about this.

Is there a tute on here or somewhere else about making a sewing machine or serger cover?  I did a search, looked through several pages and did not find anything, forgive me if I skimmed over it and just point me to it if it's out there!  Thanks!
89  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Too small shirt into a shirt that fits? on: March 31, 2008 09:24:39 AM
I think there may have been a topic on this already...but search is broken right now so I cannot find it Sad

I have a cool tye dye Steve Miller Band t-shirt I got for .99 from the thrift and I want to make it into a great shirt for me.  It is a men's Large though, and I wear a men's XL or XXL depending on the fit for it to be loose enough through the body.

How/what can I do to make this shirt fit me properly?  Of course, it is just your standard jersey t-shirt fabric, regular thickness, and has screen printing on the front.
90  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Custom Wedding Head Wreath - White, red, purple, gold and pearls on: March 31, 2008 06:57:53 AM
I finished this a few days ago, and have only had time to take a couple photos of it with my camera phone, so the photos are not that great Sad  And I have not been able to crop the empty space out as I have no editing software at work.  You can see the colors and how it is made better in the closeup photo, but I like to show a full-view photo too Smiley

The lady I made this for requested the colors, but left it up to me on how to put it all together.  When I emailed her these same photos she was ecstatic and told me this was exactly what she was seeing in her mind.  I was so happy to make her vision a reality!  Enjoy!
