785  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Re: Asking for my first machine on: March 03, 2010 09:04:28 PM
Thanks Lique! I'm sure the Hello Kitty machine is great. It has a ton of great reviews.

I hope the brother machine is a good fit for me. Smiley I have all sort of plans for it already, involving many new pillows for my couch to start out with.
786  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Asking for my first machine on: March 01, 2010 06:18:37 AM
I'm looking at the Hello Kitty Sewing Machine - Green (11706). It's a 3/4 size machine and reviewers say it's the same as Janome Harmony 1017. It looks simple, but I'm a true beginner. Should I go with this one? It has a lot of great reviews, but I'm wondering if I need something a little sturdier and more versitile. I'd rather not have to buy another one in a year or two.

Oh, and to explain the topic name, I'm asking for it on my wedding registry Smiley

What would you guys reccomend for a first machine??

ETA: looking around in the forums and then on Amazon, I just found this on sale Brother CS6000I 60-Stitch Computerized Free-Arm Sewing Machine with Multiple Stitch Functions. It looks so complicated!! But at the same time, that's just another way of saying room to grow, right?

ETA: I went with the Brother Machine.
787  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Re: Think this goes here...Designs for Pocket Mirrors! (2 images possibly NSFW) on: February 28, 2010 07:57:01 PM
You might want to move the text and important parts of the picture away from the edge a bit to compensate for the bit that overlaps around the edge of the mirror. You don't necessarily want a border or white there, because it's hard to center, but you also don't parts of your picture cut off. It's a balance Smiley

There's a trick to making text easier to read on a patterned background. You outline the text in a different color. There's a bunch of different way to do this, and it doesn't always seem like it will fit, but give it a shot.

Anywho, I love what you did. I'm planning on digital scrapbooking my wedding. Smiley
