2  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / ~2 new poppets!~ on: May 24, 2008 11:19:20 AM
Its about time I posted this poppet girl! I made her way back in March but something wasn't quite right. So I put her away for a few months and not (because of the poppet swap) I decided to fix her up. She got new hair, a shorter haircut and rejoined. I'm really happy with her now despite her flaws!

She is made with micro suede, which stretched a lot when i stuffed her. Because of this she is significantly taller then my other girl.

I felt bad about neglecting her, so I made her another dress from craftewoman's halter dress pattern!

She still doesn't have a name. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know!

Also I made my 1st mini! She is a mouse named Clara and currently is travelling as part of the Little visitors swap!
Her mini gallery for the swap is here .

Thanks for looking! They were so much fun to make!
3  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / needle felted fairies and friends! (IMG heavy) on: March 18, 2008 12:36:35 PM
I have been needle felting for quite a few years. It's not what you'd expect from a 15 year old, but I really enjoy it. Smiley
I learned when I went to work for my brother's friend's mom who is a local artist in my town. She makes the most gorgeous fairy dolls and doll houses, a very talented lady. Anyway, she taught me to needle felt but she became really frustrated because I wasn't learning it quickly enough for her. *sigh* I was 13 and had never heard of it before I started helping her how can I compare to her 10+ years of needle felting?

After I stopped working for her I realized that she taught me something very unique and there was no reason I shouldn't continue making things.
These are fairly old creations, but I don't think they're half bad. What do you think?

These pictures really don't do them justice. I never realized how hard photographing anything needle felted really is.

One of my very first fairy dolls plus a butterfly

My first attempt at making animals.. .

All of the dolls have wire inside their bodies, so they can be posed

The Halloween series: I make one for my mom for her birthday every year (its on Halloween!).  The one on the right is the very first fairy I made.

Christmas presents a few years ago

These are little angel tree ornaments.  I made 6ish of them in all different colors and gave them to friends and family for Christmas. One even went all the way to my penpal in Poland! They have little wire halos, but you can't really see them here.

Thanks so much for looking! I will appreciate any feedback you have, regardless of whether or not you needle felt!
4  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / My plush creations (IMG heavy) on: March 17, 2008 12:33:09 PM
A few weeks ago, I was in the hospital and after coming home I couldn't do anything "active" for a few days. (You know you're a craftster when you get fabric as a get well soon gift Tongue). So as part of my recovery I made several stuffties.  Seriously, having these guys around made me feel so much better!

First came Haley the hexapus. The inspiration came from Henry the hexapus, https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=232021.0. I think they might be siblings...

Then I made these guys, the pattern came from the book "Plush you" however I didn't like how the first one looked so I messed around with the pattern a little bit.
The one on the left is the first one.

Next I made some stuffties from the book: "Softies"

I'm not sure what this guy's name is yet, but the pattern is George the elephant king.

Here he is with the page in the book.  Smiley

Last, I made a tea bag. I don't drink green tea, so I changed the color.

Thanks for looking! Feedback is always welcome. I had so much fun making these guys.  Smiley
5  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / -Nadya- my first poppet! (IMG heavy) on: February 26, 2008 07:39:53 PM
Nadya is a gypsy fairy. She travels from garden to garden, wandering among the flowers.
But dont be mistaken by this seemingly innocent girl.  The broken dishes you blamed on your cat that was her.  You favorite bracelet that has been missing for months she took it.

This is my very first poppet.  She was so much fun to make, and I learned a lot from making her.  She does have her flaws. Her body isnt stuffed nearly enough, so her head is pretty floppy, but I know what to do differently next time. Since her skin is quite hard to match and due to the decorations in her hair, she wont be a dress up poppet, more of a look-but-dont-play kinda doll.

Im really proud of her; shes the first major sewing project Ive ever done.  I took her outside for a few pictures this afternoon

The dog, of course had to see what was going on

My favorite part was decorating her hair. She has so many beautiful beads tucked in there.

Her wings attach via velcro on her back.

And here are the wings. They were super fun and easy to make.

And inside her body, she has a little heart. Here it is before I sewed up her body. (Its next to a pencil for size reference.)  My mom has always given her stuffed creations hearts; she has been doing this as long as I can remember.

Thanks for looking! And many thanks to ghilie for both the poppet and dress pattern!
