1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / A Christmas story Snow Globe Hat on: December 26, 2010 05:31:54 PM
Each year my family has a game or a contest. Last year we had a hat contest & I really want to brag about Hubby's hat...

He made a snow globe on his head!!!

He is a big A Christmas Story fan so his theme was easy his execution was quite impressive!!!

He made the leg lamp from a Barbie-- fishnets & all -- no store bought leg here!
He made the fragile box, and then He got a glass bowl, turned it upside down, and filled it with Styrofoam balls.   He got an air compressor (the kind used for blowing up air mattresses) and snaked that up his shirt & into the hat, to make the "snow" blow around.

He had speakers on the hat, and had audio from the  movie playing...

Thats a pic of the actual house from the movie (with the leg lamp in the window), and of course the kid licking the pole is featured too
He did a marvelous job, and I just wanted to show off his mad skills. He didn't win the contest (b/c you'll never beat a kid  Sad )     but I wanted him to get some craftster love, so he can see what a great job he did  Grin

I included a couple shots of the whole group too, I hope you enjoyed your holidays.

I heard from someone that you need a business license to sell you products at a craft fair, and if you don't have one your goods could be confiscated! could you imagine?   Anyway, does anyone participate in craft shows in NJ & do you know know if this is true / false

5  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Resin Spoon Christmas Ornaments on: November 24, 2009 08:11:39 AM
Every year my Mom & I make ornaments for the Family to hand out on Christmas Eve

While perusing Craftster I saw the resin spoon necklace pendants, and decided that would be the framework of our ornaments this year.

We made a few generic ones, and a few customized, one for the NJ Devils fan, and one for a vacuum-aholic (the vacuum w/ the hearts around it), one w/ my cousin's dogs, etc....   We enjoyed making them, now I can't wait to hand them out!
Some are filled w/ seed beads behind the main image - which I think look great up close!

More pics added:
Seed beeds as balls on the Christmas tree & as background

7  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / I have it narrowed down to 3... singer/brother/janome on: February 07, 2009 09:01:57 PM

I went sewing machine shopping today. I have it narrowed down to 3

All are very close in price...

One is the Brother XL 3750 - 35 built in stitches & one step button hole etc...

next is the Janome 7318  - only has 18 built in stitches but from what I hear - its a better machine then a brother

and last is an old used Singer 401A  - They tell me it will sew through anything I ask it to...   old, and from the time when plastic wasn't used in everything

Any experience you have had with these machines would be helpful...

Thank you so much.

8  COOKING / Dessert / Mice Cherries - w/ poops & cheese ; ) on: January 08, 2009 07:39:54 PM
I took the mice cherries to the next level -- added poops (sprinkles) and a sandy "nilla wafer" bottom

Perfect birthday dessert for someone just getting over a mouse infestation!
