1  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Subversive Cross Stitch *naughty word warning* on: February 18, 2008 02:27:51 AM
So I recently purchased Subversive Cross Stitch by Julie Jackson, and boy did that turn out to be money well spent.  I haven't made a single pattern directly as shown in the book, but it's been a brilliant source for inspiration.  My boss and I moved our office on Friday, and we went from having actual offices to cubicles.  So I made him a cubicle warming gift.

He loved it.  So did my mother.  She asked me to make one for her to give to a friend as a valentine's day gift.  Apparently it's her favorite phrase.

I liked the idea of making tiny cross stitch so much that I made two more for some coworkers who didn't move with us, so I won't see them nearly as often.

I particularly like I heart my job.  The skull and cross bones really makes it for me.

The Subversive Cross Stitch book was definitely a good purchase.  I've owned the book a week, and have gotten more use out of it than I thought I would in a year.
2  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Atoms for peace on: February 06, 2008 05:28:17 PM
This is my first completed embroidery project!  I got the idea from an ad I found here: http://blog.modernmechanix.com/2007/05/06/atoms-for-peace/

The card started to break badly by the time I got to the word "atoms", and it shows unfortunately.  We all have to start somewhere though.

This is my third project, the first two being on fabric which is far easier to use than the card stock this is done on.  The weird looking flowers on the dove's branch are actually atoms in the original ad, which is why there are black french knots in them.  They're supposed to be electrons Smiley

Hopefully I'll finish the other two projects soon, but the inspiration for this one hit, and sort of derailed the first things I was working on.
